In 1971 we paid £635. Edwardian house 4 bedrooms two living rooms kitchen bathroom and pantry, no garden though. Sue................... Oh forgot to tell you we could not get a morgage because the roof needed doing so we rallied round all the family paid cash for it, so we have never had a morgage.

Bought my first house for £32,000 in 1995 newly built, sold it 8 years later for £46,000. Bought this house which needed a lot of work before the increase for £22,000 and if I put it on the market now its worth around anything from £95,000 to £120,000. Yep its going on the market next year, so I can buy another old house that needs work. Yvonne

We paid just over £16,000 in 1982 for a 2 bedroom terraced house in Colchester. Took every penny we had saved to fill the gap between the mortgage we could get and the price. Sold it for £49,500 in 1988. Put all the profit on another house nearby and had another mortgage and lost the lot. Prices went down and when we sold 10 years later in 1998 we got £2,500 less than we paid for it!!

We paid £4150 for our 3 bed mid terraced house with garage & central heating(much to the envy of my mum in her draughty victorian terrace in Se London) in 1967. It was a brand new house on a new developement in Kent We still here & the houses now are being snapped up as soon as they come on market as are large & have resonable gardens . They sell now for around £195000. Shirley
