THE 'POINTLESS' BECKHAMS Victoria Beckham has been voted the nation's most pointless celebrity. The former Spice Girl topped a poll of viewers who were left asking: 'What is she for?' In a further blow for the Beckham brand, husband David came second. The survey was for Channel 4 show The Death of Celebrity, presented by former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan. The programme wages war on celebrities who are famous despite having little or no talent. Jordan is at number three, followed by Abi Titmuss. Prime Minister Tony Blair comes in at number five. Jade Goody is at number six, having forged a career and made millions from appearing on Big Brother. At No 9, the top 10 list includes everyone who has ever appeared on the reality show. The Royal Family are also deemed pointless celebrities, making it to number seven. Glamour girl Jodie Marsh is at number eight, while David Beckham's former PA Rebecca Loos - now milking her fame after claiming to have bedded the England captain - brings up the rear at number 10.

And as for Piers Morgan.....Yuk !

Hi Elaine, To be fair it wasn't C4 who said they were pointless it was the Great British Public. and as a member of the GBP I agree with most of the list. Gwynne

Gwynne Channel four had arranged the survey though. And its the public, in the first place who make people the celebrities they are E x (I respect your views though) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To be quite honest, anyone calling another human being pointless is hardly nice. (unless they have done a terrible wrong) As far as I can see none of the people on that list have done anything that terrible to be called pointless. The Beckhams do lots of charity work, often not making most of it public. David Beckham has made his celebrity name in football. The poor couple cannot do right in peoples eyes and I really feel sorry for them sometimes. and as for the royal family being called pointless celebrities, (I'm not a royalist by the way) that is unreal. The monarchy (with its good and bad) is part of British heritage. Royals have earned their status. If pointless, means HAVING to attend charity functions regardless of whether they feel unwell or want to chill out, then everyone must be pointless Elaine x

another point 99 % of celebrities were once unknown before they become famous for whatever. Often they became famous because people took to them and liked them for whatever. Who was Liz Hurley before she appeared with Hugh Grant on a red carpet wearing a dress held together with saftey pins ? She was known as the girl in THAT dress ! Now she is an actress. Hi Elaine, My views on the royal family are a whole different thread! lol I think the programme is meant to be looking at celebrities who the public feel have done nothing to 'earn' their celebrity. People with zero talent or ability can become famous in a way that wasn't possible in bygone years. For that reason I would not have put David Beckham on the list - he is a talented footballer. His wife has no musical ability whatsoever but was in a manufactured pop group who mimed in all their live appearances. I'm not sure I'd describe her as pointless but she has done nothing to earn credit as a musical artiste. Credit to her for earning millions with no talent, though. I'm not fond of their ostentatious displays of wealth - the wedding and the kids' birthday parties would have fed a lot of starving people but it's up to them how they spend their money. They do give to charity but percentage-wise I bet a lot of ordinary people give just as much. As for Jordan and Jodi Marsh - words almost fail me. No talent for anything other than taking their clothes off and being famous. I think the programme is probably going to be quite cruel but I won't see it as I'll be out. I dislike deliberate cruelty as much as I dislike some of the people on the list so I wouldn't watch it if I was in. Gwynne

I may be wrong but I'm guessing Gwynne and Roxanne probably think like me - that those you mentioned are pointless in terms of talent equalling amount of media coverage they get. David Beckham may be a good footballer but does that warrant the amount of times we have to see him in the papers etc? Victoria is talentless as are Liz Hurley, Jordan and so on. I know the media say these are the people we want to hear about but I don't. I don't care who they're having sex with, what they're wearin or what their hairstye has changed to. I don't buy papers to read about any of these and there are a lot of people with a lot more talent and who have paid their dues and deserve the column space.

David - you've summed it up so well, and reminded me why I don't buy newspapers any more, lol! I think I am 'celebrity immune' and if Channel 4 did a programme about the LEAST pointless celebrities, I'm sure I won't have heard of most of them (I have to confess I don't know who Jodi Marsh is!)

I agree with David. These should not be called Pointless People but Uninteresting People. I really do not see why so much Media Time and Space is filled with trivial things happening in the lives of people who have done nothing particularly interesting or useful. And as for the so-called 'Reality Shows', they are just a cheap way of filling TV Time Schedules for those who would rather watch life than live it.

Elaine They didn't call them 'Pointless human beings' it was 'Pointless Celebrities' very different. David Beckham is a talented Footballer of that there is no doubt, so he shouldn't be on the list, I certainly do not feel sorry for the Beckhams they do flaunt their money & put themselves out there so they are bound to get slated at some point. There are hundreds of footballers who just play football we don't hear about every little detail of their lives. Tony Blair is leader of the Labour Party whether people like it or not he is also the current Prime Minister so he is NOT just a celebrity. I don't know all the people listed as I don't watch television very often or read rag newspapers but if what Gwynne says is correct well they deserve to be listed as pointless and to me that includes the Royal family. Elaine, I disagree with your your statement that it is the public that make these people celebrities. In fact it is the media. I gave up buying 'newspapers' years ago because I was fed up with reading 'stories' about pointless people Jean x.

Well I certainly don't think David Beckham or Jordan are pointless! Beckham is a superb footballer and as annoying as she is Jordan is a very successful businesswoman. She saw a niche in the market and has made millions of pounds from it... yes all she really does is get her boobs out but she has made a fortune from doing it... I think the men who pay to see her are the really stupid ones! Becx

l'm with you on this Elaine - the Beckhams do alot of charity work & all sorts of good normal things that we don't hear about, its the papers that give them the bad name catching Victoria with funny facial expressions then saying she's mad or simular, they should leave them alone. Jordan should be number ONE - lol, but then l would'nt mind her £££££ for being who she is;~) jude sarf wales ;~)

Any Accountant will tell you that ALL very wealthy people give money to Charity, I am afraid the reason for that is NOT always because they really want to give their money away it's because its a Tax dodge. The vast amount of money gathers a load of interest more money more tax, so the more they give to Charity the more they save on the huge wealth that is left. Pat x
