Tell the surgery that you have diabeties in the family ,and demand a test for it while you are there ,they can tell on the spot if you have it ,or look like you have a tendency for it.Fred.

Fred the result will be back next week and they test for everything (diabetes, cholestrol, thyroid, liver etc etc.) BP was checked this morning too.

I'm diabetic, have had heart attack etc but NEVER have to have a Fasting blood test. I have two tests a year where a phial of blood taken for various tests and blood pressure checked. Once results in I then have remaineder of my diabetes check up, foot test, talk thro things etc. No idea why the difference in fasting/non fasting tests.

Normally Ann the first line of testing for diabetes is the type of test diabetics do every day at home. Testing your blood sample by the hospital means they check your long term bloods which is wot I have done.

Hi, Ann, J goes for his annual M.O.T. next wednsday, he takes statins but never has to fast... different surgeries I suppose,we are praying all is well for him... dont want any more scares....I also go sometime soon I think, usually get told I weigh too much, lol......hope your results are o.k.

I thought most people having bllod tests for cholestrol have to fast Jean, that is what my main blood test was for, the rest is just done 'as well'. T once had his tested not fasted and his cholestrol was higher than the next time when he fasted.
