I thought most people having bllod tests for cholestrol have to fast Jean, that is what my main blood test was for, the rest is just done 'as well'. T once had his tested not fasted and his cholestrol was higher than the next time when he fasted.

I'm diabetic, have had heart attack etc but NEVER have to have a Fasting blood test. I have two tests a year where a phial of blood taken for various tests and blood pressure checked. Once results in I then have remaineder of my diabetes check up, foot test, talk thro things etc. No idea why the difference in fasting/non fasting tests.

Normally Ann the first line of testing for diabetes is the type of test diabetics do every day at home. Testing your blood sample by the hospital means they check your long term bloods which is wot I have done.

Best of luck. Hope all goes well

Tell the surgery that you have diabeties in the family ,and demand a test for it while you are there ,they can tell on the spot if you have it ,or look like you have a tendency for it.Fred.

Usually two weeks before we get results. We have the blood test, then when we go for results we have the BP, urine tests. No, don't know why they don't do them all at once.

Oh Ann.
You´ve just reminded me that mine is due next month.
The blood letting clinic here is from 8am to 9am so it means getting up at the crack of dawn.
On the plus side, they do the full works.....complete cholesterol & thyroid tests plus test for any other blips & also a urine test at the same time.
Then we go back to the GP either the following day or the day after for the results & we are given a print out of the readings to keep.
Must say I like the Spanish health service, but that cup of coffee is a huge sacrifice. Don´t feel human until I´´ve had it.

me2 Roy. I don't feel human until I've had my two morning coffees!

I have a wonderful OH, he brings me the 1st cup

OH sits on the deck with his 1st cup and watches the sun come up.

I sit in bed with mine, and wait for my eyelids to creak open.

:-D

I too have to have those fasting blood tests for very high cholesterol - it's in double figures without Statins - where would I be without Statins - dead probably!!
It's the first cup of coffee in the morning that I struggle not having!!

my high cholestoerol is no caused by what I eat, it's familial

As the doctors is only 5 minutes from home it isn't too bad but I shall have a small marathon bar with me. I too hate being hungry and thirsty.
