Usually settee, sometimes sofa, never couch

I have over the years called it all 3 and here s another we use 'lounge'

Thank goodness, Ingrid in Oz, I was wondering which brave colonial would introduce our furniture into the conversation.

We have a lounge suite. It has a two or three seat "couch" and two lounge chairs. Not to be mixed up with lounge suit, which is what the blokes wear to a formal occasion. The chairs can be rockers or recliners. And rockers or recliners are also sold as stand alone furniture items.

We also have sofas which are just the two or three seater part of the lounge suite, and are often sofa beds.

Our lounge suite goes into our lounge room, or sometimes living room.

Am I the only Couch sitter here - we called it the couch in the lounge!

We aint fussy... some call it sofa, some a couch, my father called it a settee and then there are some that call it a divan.... and yes my aunt and a chaise lounge...

all sorts here...

But sometimes North Island does use different terminology from the South Islanders eg a small beach house/holiday home in the north is called a bach and in the South they call it a crib.... I had never heard of a static until I came on GR...

I'm from the North and we all call it a couch up here.

Here a divan is a proper bed, with no footboard, only a headboard and has an upholstered base under the mattress.

I come from the north originally and would call it a sofa, but maybe I have been living in the Midlands too long!! I think my parents called it a settee.

Always as a child the family called it a couch .....If we weren't feeling very well I can hear my mother saying ,"go and lie on the couch" !!

It was a three piece suite ..

Only when I went to London to live I see it known as a settee or thee piece suite ,

I'm from oop north and I have got one three seater settee for the black cat,and a two seater for the ginger cat,OH perches in the armchair,so that leaves the dining table for me :-D :-D :-D

I'm from S Wales where we called it a settee and some called it a couch.

Ive lived in the East Midlands for 32 years where most people call it a sofa and some a settee.
