An idle question to get you thinking . do you have a settee, a sofa or a couch? does it depend on style, family usage or station in life? We have used both sofa and settee, but cant remember ever calling it a couch. :-S |

Always a sofa in our house. Never called it a couch either. Do you think it is a north/south thing? |

We have a settee and come from london although now live in Kent. I remember my family best sitting room where mum had the GOOD furniture and we only used it at Christmas!! They had a 3 piece suite and it was known as the 2 armchairs and the sofa. We werent allowed in the best room without supervision. |

I'm from the north. We also had a front room which was also only used at Christmas (or when someone "important" visited). It had a 3 piece suite (two armchairs and a 2 seater sofa). |

Maybe it all depends on the salesperson who sells it and what he or she calls it!! |

From the south and I say 'sofa', although, at the moment, I'm sat on a chaise longue :-) |

Mum used to light the fire in the best room.known as the front room , Christmas morning & again Boxing morning and we were allowed in there till dinner was ready . After dinner mum and dad would join in too. It was big room with high ceiling so you roasted your legs near the fire and shivered with the cold draught at your back. |

We had a front room which was used on Sundays and Christmas and for me to practice piano. There were two massive leather chairs and no settee. The vicar went in there if he called, but the last one that came here sat in the kitchen with us for a cup of tea. |
