I did it, 3 years ago.

Because No.1 was newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and was in a bit of a crisis, he got put on a diet that allowed for only 45 grams of carbohydrates per meal. I'm the cook, he's the dishwasher. I became incredibly inventive. We ate a lot of green beans. (They're free food -- but we ate every other veg under the sun, still do.)

That amount of carb is barely more than 2 slices of bread per meal (and no other carbohydrates), or one cup of rice, or one large potato, or a reeealy small serving of pasta.

I ate the same diet as him -- doing otherwise would have felt a bit like drinking around an alcoholic. Ah, but the trick is: I eat only once a day.

I lost about 30 pounds in 3 months. It absolutely does work when you absoutely stick to it.

These days, the focus is on feeding him up. Ask me how much of the 30 pounds stayed off. (Actually, most of it! but I think I'm starting to lose that battle ...)

Well done janey, have you any idea why by eating the same food for 2 weeks would make me lose 7 pounds to put it back the 2nd, i desperately wanted to try the diet even tho oh wouldn't do it with me ? x

What about this

A slimming pill available on NHS sells out in 3 days.
The pill is called Capsiplex and is an anti-obesity
drug. I hadn't heard of this before have you?

You know, it's true what "they" say. There's no such thing as a diet.

The only way to do it is to eat less and/or exercise more.

I exercise nil. I have to eat less.

Less of the carbohydrates essentially, keeping the fat down too of course.

Vegetables, vegetables, vegetables, and protein, and a reasonable amount of carbohydrates (because your body *does* need them, you can't just cut them out for any length of time).

There's no magic fix. Just absolute determination and ... yes ... willpower.

Now for that drug (Capsiplex ) -- I dunno about that one, but I've heard rumbling about some new thing to do with those of us for whom it all really and truly is genetic. Maybe before I die ... of the genetic complex of problems that go with the belly fat ...

Metformin but not diabetic? That's odd. Hyperglycaemic bordering on type 2?

Goldengirl slimming pills are addictive so not a good way to go for most.
I would love an anti fat pill as long as it didn't detrimant (sp) my health, but there isn't so I have health or I have vanity ...

And yes Puss I went on a strict controlled diet at boarding school, they made me, imagine my shame in school dinners picking a salad up or even worse the dinner ladies saying 'oh we have something special for you. Did I lose weight ..NOoooo but I did lose loads when I thought I may have to stay for 6th form ..( so much my parents let me leave, or was that I was leaving anyway)

These pills make me wonder also, my daughter was
put on one by her GP but she didn't feel in control
of bodily functions if you know what I mean. Used
to be a great hill and forest walker about 6years ago
till I got RA now can't walk any distance for pain and
spent holiday last week in wheelchair. Makes me so
frustrated coming from fit to fat.

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 14 Jun 2010 21:48

I have tried loads of diets, but I can't walk as much as I used to when I had the dogs. Also something that has been noted is that last year, I lost a stone in a few weeks, when I had the C Diff etc etc... but I was also being intravenously hydrated and tube fed for a good couple of weeks. I should have lost more than that. I did lose three stone throughout the treatment as a whole.

Strange though, that I didn't start putting it back on until about 6 months later, in fact even continuing to lose at a much gentler rate when I went back to normal eating, but I was moving around more and didn't have much bone or muscle pain for quite a while. And then I was put back on my blood pressure tablets. And the weight has all gone back on in about 8 months.

Janey, Metformin is also sometimes used for polycystic ovary syndrome over here.

daff the doc said today lots of tabs have side affects of making you hungry but he said what they fail to put is that they actually make you gain weight if you have tried your best not to eat more.
Ive just looked up capsiplex it sounds good its the chilli peppers in it that spped your metabolism up instead of caffiene etc, i do eat chillie pickled chillie lol.

I began to feel tired for no reason and had aches and
pains, stiffness in joints and hot spots (flare ups)
Gradually got worse where at times could not weight
bare. Thought Limes disease but diagnosed RA.
Hope I've explained it OK.
