Jane Report 3 Feb 2012 21:29

All I can think of Ann is Ford Anglia.
Janice will be fine in a cossie .I'm the one who won't wear one lol
She won't be able to do Hydrotherapy until her 'wound' is completely healed.

I think I will be having a fairly early night.James will have the dog tomorrow, but I will whip Chester our for a short walk just to give him a chance to do his 'toilet' and stretch his legs.
I have started doing that silly thing again of waking up about 2hours after I have gone to sleep and thinking I have been asleep for hours. It is so annoying :-S.I look at the clock thinking it will be about 3am and it wll be Midnight !!!! and my dreams are so real but bizarre :-S
I will say Night Night now .....My prayer as a child kneeling on my little rug beside my bed was
Gentle Jesus meek and mild
Look upon a little child
Pity my simplicity
Suffer me to come to thee.
God Bless,Mummy ,Daddy ,Peter (the cat) Jane and Janice.
Then I would be 'Tucked in'.I loved being tucked in.Sometimes it might have been a bit too tight ,especially over the feet.So I would have to push the sheet and blankets up with my feet just to loosen them a bit.
Then pluck feathers out of the Eiderdown :-D :-D :-D

Sweet Dreams xx

Hi Everyone.

OH home and very tired, just opened a bottle of wine for himself, I had a snowball (yummy) and we sat down and wished each other a happy anniversary and opened our cards together.

Thanks Frank & David for your kind wishes

we have had a cold but sunny day, no rain or wind which makes a change, daughter no 2 & boyfriend have the flu so I had Sofia to myself , we had a lovely time went for a walk pushing the dolls buggy.
Then came back and painted and printed with some stampers in shapes of moon & stars, white paint on black card, very effective,

Well I am off to bed now, feeling a bit weary and think I might be in for another cold myself and I have just got rid of ONE!!!!!!!! :-| :-| :-(, head feeling thick and my nose is running. Grrrrr

I'll be back tomorrow
night night

Hello everyone,

Sun has finally arrived and not a cloud in the sky. Hope it sticks around for a bit. Terrible flooding up north where I have a few relies, with highways cut and mass evacuations. Makes me feel lucky to be living here.

Fiona a belated happy anniversary for yesterday. Your flowers sounded beautiful from the descriptions. Good that OH will be home with you for a couple of weeks. Hope the cold doesn't take hold too much.

Jane thanks for posting my message. Enjoy your visit with Janice and take care on the roads. Will be great for you to spend some time with her.

Maureen how is Alfie doing? What did he have the blood tests for? These vets make a fortune. Ours is always trying to push special diets on the cats as he gets a kick back from the manufacturer. My two won't eat it, so what's the point. We must have paid for his own private jet from all the money we have spent there over the years.

Do you get most of your snow in Feb.? That is what I have heard before.

Ann your FIL sounds marvellous for his age. Oh to be that spritely and fit. Hope MIL's health improves.

Frank, like Shirl, I was going to suggest some time down the track you might get a kitten or young cat. Never to take puss's place, but a new pet can ease that terrible feeling of loss and provide a new focus. Just a thought :-)

Sheila good to see you back. Mel mentioned that Teddie had died. So sorry to hear about it. I know how much you loved him. Glad that Jasper is picking up, although I expect he will miss his friend for a while. What a lovely holiday you had. The cottage sounded delightful, just a relaxing week and a break from all the hoo haa at home, lol. Donnie and Beryl, what can I say ;-) ;-) Do they ever end up in the Emergency Department after one of these scraps?? I don't know why they load you up with their "differences" if I can put it politely. I thought the marmalade in the hair was really funny, sitting here laughing and reading it out to my son. You will miss them so much when they go to the US.

Off for a cuppa now and to watch the news.

Have a good day everyone. BBL 6.00 pm DST

Morning from an early bird
Evening Kim.Yes February is the month when we are quite likely to get snow. But who knows in this country. We have had it in April before lol
I haven't heard anything about flooding in Australia.I hope everyone will be safe.
I'm having my first cuppa.Chris is still snoozing.I want to be off reasonably early. It is just getting light now and it's soooooooo cold out there.Chester was out and back in ,in a flash straight back into his bed.
The birds are singing away in the garden being led by a Blackbird. It sounds lovely.
Right I will go and make my last drink (daren't have more as there is a distinct lack of loos on the route to my Sisters):(

Back this afternoon before the white stuff arrives.Tatty Bye

Morning All,

Not quite so cold today but still a bit of the od snow around and we have very fine rain in the air.

Hope all are as well as can be expected today.

I was thinking about a sort of glass fat jug mum had that she put sugar in I think. It had a pale green plastic lid which was also a handle and you had a slider on the top to open it.

Remember when honey came in those lovely little glass pots with a metal lid you had to peirce before you could get it off. Jam had those lids too. Dad woud stick a knife through the top so we could open it.

Morning All

Yes , the rotten cold is back , gone through half a box of tissues already :-( :-| shiver shiver.

Tumble dryer expected anytime between 11-3pm,

It's a horrible day here, cold and wet.
OH is outside in the rain re building the porch steps which the builders did yesterday, the paving stones they used were to big and came out to far into the drive and OH would not have been able to get the car past, he had to do it this morning because any later and the cement would have been dry.

Well I need a hot drink to warm myself up, OH fed up already with me turning up the heating one minute and then moaning I'm too hot and turning it down again,

Safe trip to Jane, hope Janice is recovering and feeling more comfortable.

Morning at last.

I had a terrible night. I was in bed by 11.00 Read my book, in fact finished it by 12.30am Took my sleeper, and settled down. The moon was so bright it lit up the bedroom, even with the curtains drawn. Ros came in about 1.10am. I could not settle down laid and tossed and turned. Thought about getting up, but gave that idea a miss. I was still awake at 4.30am.

I know it's the anniversary of my dads funeral today, so that was on my mind. I remember counting and making notes of every wreath. He had over 60, We couldn't move in the "front room" I walked in front of the hearse to the church, and it rained and was so cold. Typical Februay day..

Anyway, got up at 9.30. Showered shaved and sat around. Ros has gone on her shopping trip with Martine, won't be back till 1.30/2.00 pm.

Kim, It is so errie without my friend, being around "talking" to me all the time. I sat last night in my chair. Where he always sat on his blanket on the arm. Still seems strange not being able to stroke him. !!!!

Jane, we have noticed the birds are chasing around. I have to keep my front door to keep the youngs MUMS from ME :-D :-D :-D :-D We have the blackbirds, ring doves, jackdaws. sparrows and thrushes. Tits not around yet. but plenty of seed out there for them. I have four nest boxs set around the garden for them, and larger ones for the bigger birds with open fronts.

At the funeral last week of Martines sister. Her uncle George was there 93. He was talking to a woman about her hushband and said "hows the young un" he is 78 years old !!!!

Afternoon everyone,

Just a little frost this morning , we had a lovely meal last night ,coming home the moon was really bright and the roads were all frost free ,i think it was a good thing we went last night with the snow on its way tonight !!!

Been to Tesc*s this morning and i think the world and his wife were in there, people had trolleys loaded up, it was like christmas !!,i suppose they were stocking up because of the snow, we only wanted a few bits but we stood ages in the queue!!

I hope Jane has a safe journey to see her sister , you can talk on the phone ,but its nice to see some one in the flesh ,and see how they are getting on .

Hope your cold soon goes Fiona ,its rotten picking another one up so soon after just getting over one !! have plenty of hot drinks and keep in the warm today .

Frank , i have nights like that when you just carn't sleep, all sorts of things go through your mind, and you just start to nod off when its time to get up!!

Time for a cuppa .

Jane Report 4 Feb 2012 16:47

Well I think we timed that just about right. There looks to be the first bits of snow coming now.We did drive through some on the way back on the M5 just before the M42.All the overhead Motorway signs were saying Severe Weather Forecast Today, and Salt Spreading. We saw several Salt wagons and they all had the ploughs on the front.

We didn't stay too long at with Janice and her OH as she wasn't feeling well at all today.I think she just got up from bed because we were going.I said she was a silly billy and should have rung me to say not to go .But she wanted to see us.I think the combination of all her strong meds and not eating is making her feel sick and woozy. She said the light was on but she felt no-one was in lol
She said to thankyou all again for your wishes and says you all sound a lovely bunch. She has met Mel so knows who she is.It is going to be some weeks I think before she can come to stay with me for a few days.
It was good to see her ,so now I feel happier.
Have just fed all the birds again and thawed the bird bath. They are all feeding like mad now.Stoking up for the next day I think.I saw lots of huge Birds of Prey on our journey. One was a huge thing sat in a tree at the side of the Motorway.I don't know what it was.It looked as big as an Eagle !
Popped into Tes** on the way home and Yes Mandy it was like a frenzy.Snow shovels being bought by the dozen too.The lad that served me is working until Midnight.I hope he gets home alright.

I'm glad you enjoyed your evening last night Mandy.I don't think you would be going if it was tonight :-S

Frank I think you will have a better night tonight.(fingers crossed)
David I think I forgot the anniversary of my Dad's Death last year.(and I'm not as old as you ;-).I did feel bad about it though.

Fiona I hope your cold doesn't linger.I have heard several people say they had just got over one cold and then it returned :-S

Hi everyone else.I must go and put the Casserole back in now to reheat, and peel some potatoes for Mash.

I meant to say ,when I brought the milk in from the front this morning, one of the bottoms just dropped out.Frozen solid !! I did have a bit of a mess in the kitchen, but it was just what hadn't frozen in the middle of the bottle.
Will send a pic !

William Report 4 Feb 2012 16:57

'afternoon all, snowing here, but no need to go out today, staying snug and warm. Been watching the birds in the garden, Robin, Blackbirds, Finches - even the Starlings. The wood pigeons are as stupid as ever and by the time they've worked out how to get onto the bird table, their cousins have nipped in and helped themselves. They have nearly stripped our pyrachantha bare and are working on the holly bushes. I've run out of fat balls (no jokes please!!!) - till I go out again, so I've had to break up cereals and put them out to improvise. Just wish I could put out some water for them without it freezing. The bird bath is a solid mass of ice.

Frank, you're latest emails were howlers. My OH wanted to know what I was laughing out loud about. Cheered me up no end.

I've got a book here I had for last birthday called The 50's & 60's, The Best of Times. It's personal reminises from all sorts of people but it's the photos and ads that really bring it home. Here are a few memory joggers. Gibbs Dentifrice, Rinso - and Quix for your washing up. Throw away the tumbler dryer, what about an Acme wringer? Before all the power companies we now have, Mr Therm! Ditch the fitted carpet, how about Congoleum squares, cost less than £3, and mopable!
One for Frank, Peckham's Kipper Paste (ughhhh). Clarinco Regency Candies, yummy.
Before the days of multi-plastics and Tupperware - tins by Tala for your kitchen storage. How about a 'Liberty' bodice for your child to keep warm this weather? Made by Symington & Co of Market Harborough. If you go to that town today, in the upstairs at the Municipal Offices you will find the local history - and Corset Museum. Both very interesting. Or there was Puritex 'Knickers for nippers'
For those beauty minded, Estolan Conditioning cream for your hair, a Toni home perm - and Brylfoam shampoo, not to mention your Amami wave set, then brush out with a Mason Pearson brush. And of course, you wouldn't go out without your Evening in Paris on.

Playtime, you could have your Pedigree doll with a pin-up perm kit. Boys had the Meccano Magazine, and if your folks were well heeled, you might even get a Hornby Dublo train set. Or maybe a Bayko building set, or some Triang push-and-go scale models. Curry's sold bikes etc, before they went into TV's, computers and everything electrical.
Games weren't on the computer, Wii, or Playstation - it was Tiddlywinks, Tell Me, Chinese Chequers , Ludo and other board games. Or maybe some I-Spy books for 6 pence a time, kept you busy for hours.

Be nice to know who remembers what. I did notice some products or brand names are still going, not gone to the wall like a lot of household word products/manufacturers.

I remember Liberty Bodices William, in fact I wore them together with button up leggings and a Pixie Hood!! I was born during the war, so I don't remember anything about the conflict. However,my father was killed just before I was born, so the situation obviously did affect me. We (my mother and I) lived with my maternal grandparents till I was just over a year old, then we lived with friends, quite near where I now live! then back to Oxford to the G.P's. then off again to another house where we rented a bedsit, that was during the winter of 1946/7, and I can JUST remember how cold it was!!!! Luckily for both of us, my mother met the chap who became my stepfather. He was a lovely man, and we couldn't have asked for better,. He had been a POW with the Japanese after the fall of Singapore, so he had seen life too in a manner of speaking!! The day he came into our lives was certainly our lucky day as it could have been all so different! I certainly remember Hornby Trains, as my S.Father had had one (wind up not electric) so I inherited that. Being an only child I inherited lots of 'other peoples' toys/clothes, and anything else that was going including my maternal Uncles bike! I learned to ride on this, crossbar and all! My Granny made dolls, and their clothes, dolls beds out of shoe boxes, a pram was the same Uncles toy milk float, Teddies were dressed out of old material and even changed from girls to boys, nothing was impossible!!! make shift and mend was the order of the day!! I remember Toni Perms, and Estolan. I had a comic called 'Chicks Own' then Tiny Tots' 'Rainbow'and finally 'Girl' sister comic to' Eagle' Does anyone remember 'Young Elizabethan?' I had that for a while after I left School - can't imagine my own daughter even when she was that age would even have LOOKED at it, but times have changed!

No snow here so far , i keep looking out , i will be up and down all evening waiting for it to start lol

Jane, what a shame Janice didn't feel so good today ,but as you say its put your mind at rest just seeing her if only for a while , i would be the same if my sister was poorly .
Oh the milk bottle looks a mess !! did it go has you were taking it in ? or as you stood it down ? it would have made a right mess on your floor !!

Sister's G daughter was very sleepy when they saw her yesterday , she doesn't have to lay on her tummy now ,it was some thing about the drugs affecting her eye sight if she was on her tummy to long.
She has a Morphine drip and another drip for what sister didn't know and she's having pain killers by mouth too.
sister said she has tubes coming out every where !!
They tried to get her out of bed but she went as white as a sheet and nearly fainted !!
Her sister came in and was so upset seeing her with all the tubes and drips she burst into tears .

William , i've heard of some of the things , i had the horrible Liberty Bodice !!

Right off to have a nosey out the window :-D :-D

Jane Report 4 Feb 2012 18:41

Mandy the bottle went in the kitchen as I lifted it out of the milk holder thing.Luckily the broken glass remained in the holder but the milk went everywhere.Even into the drawers:(:(all over the pans.Just what I didn't need before setting off.Chester helped clean it up off the floor though :-D :-D.He thought his birthday had come.

William I don't remember a lot of those things. But Evening in Paris I do remember too well .Mum had a little bottle on her dressing table, and one day my sister and I were having a squabble and she threw some of that perfume at me and it went in my eyes :-S :-S.Boy did it sting.I think she got a smacked bottom for doing that.

Fitz reminded me of Galoshes yesterday. Now I do remember those(I think)
Did they have a loop that hooked over a little button on the side?
I just remember Jeremy Fisher wearing Galoshes lolol

Oh another brrrrrrrrrrrr today!! We went to the John Flower artist exhibition in a church a few miles away at Desford. I had 2 fleeces on and OH had too many layers to mention. It was nice in the church though and they had set up a corner like a little cafe and were selling hot drinks, cakes and had steaming electric pots of stew and soup......just the ticket and very reasonable prices. It was quite busy so we had to 'take a pew' to sit and eat! At the side of me there was a table with sound equipment and wires and stuff on it. In the middle and screwed down was a small grey box with an important looking switch in the middle. Why is it whenever I see something like that I get a compulsion and have to fight my hand from reaching and pressing it!! lol When we came out, we went around to a back entrance to the churchyard and found some big old houses with a public footpath between to fields at the back. A summer walk I think as there was a biting cold wind by then!

When we got home I had another look at the old newspapers and found an article with another ancestor in and how he met his death! It was polling day in 1886 and 9 voters were being driven to vote in the Market Place and the driver shouted to the group standing there to move out of the way. My rellie was slow to move, the driver couldn't pull up in time, so he was knocked down and the wheel ran over his head fracturing his skull and he died an hour later at his house. He was only 53 and besides his wife he had a 7 year old daughter, Anchoret.

I hope Janice picks up soon Jane and I'm sure she was glad to see you for a short visit even though she felt a bit ropey. You set me thinking with your milk bottle.......don't think I have had milk delivered for about 30 years. I seem to remember buying it in those waxed cartons before we had the plastic containers.

Another liberty bodice girl here! They had no 'give' in them did they and got tighter as you grew out of them. Mum saved the rubbery buttons off them too Frank. I always wanted a Baco set after playing with a friend's once but never got one. OH had one and loved it too.......wouldn't pass H & S these days with those rods all sticking up. Triang made lots of the smaller metal toys painted with pictures too.....I had a metal spinning top that hummed. Mum used Toni perms and Amami waveset. That museum also houses the Hallaton Hoard, the largest british find of Iron Age coins (over 5,000) and the newly restored silver gilt Roman parade helmet, William. I intend to have a looksee this summer so will check out the Liberty Bodices too!! :-D
