My Chimney is swept once a year David :-D I do remember seeing a couple of chimney fires Pretty scary they were too. It is going to be a late dinner for us tonight.I have Italian Chicken Breasts and Saute Potatoes already cooked.Just need to do the veg now.James is out playing football somewhere and will be back just after nine.I think we will have ours soon and just leave his keeping warm.I don't think we ever ate late like this when I was a child. It was dinner(or Tea as we called it) at 5 o'clock or maybe just a little later if Dad was a bit late getting in from work.We all ate at the same time .Non of this different times like I do now.

I remember Mum having a Bat in the house ,and her ringing me for help........ I was 5 hours away!!!!! what could I do ?....I rang Graham a neighbour .He went round and couldn't find it,so assumed it had gone .NO....I had another call from Mum the following morning to say 'the Bat' had just flown down the stairs and nearly hit her lol.I can't remember how it ended, but the Bat went. I think we had a couple of birds come down the chimney.
It is blowing a blooming gale outside now :-S :-S.I wonder how much of the Greenhouse will be left by the morning.Maybe not a lot :-S :-S :-S

Morning All,
Stiull very windy here today and It just sounded as if the roof lifted a bit!!
I do hope our Kim is ok. Perhaps she is just not well enough at the moment to get on the pc. Sending love and wishes <3
I worked on my tree yesterday all day not finding much on my grans family on my dads side. I did notice I had missed a child on gt grans family. Albert! I also added a couple of parents and when I tried to add a wife it came up 5 times!!!! then I could'nt delete them so had to backsp[ace all the info put on and see if that worked. Have'nt had a look today yet! to see if I have 4 empty boxes after poor old James Nevill 1771.
Had a sore throat yesterday and today it still feels achy when I touch it on the left side.
On Tuesday night oh brought the car down to the house! Then he was faffing about and I asked him what he was doing and said I did'nt know what to get for dinner. He said I am out tonight, what on a Tuesday, says I. No he said it is Wednesday. Well that not what my pooter says.......... He had lost a day somewhere which is quite unusual for him!! when he went ringing yesterday he brought fish and chips home with him from the pub which was nice as I did'nt have to cook.
He has just bought himself a new lathe. Something else to fill the new garage up with!! He already has one up the workshop out the front but it has'nt been used for years and it was only a cheap one and vibrated a lot. He did produce some nice stuff on it though. we shall see what we get out of this one. We have two pink Cherry trees in the garden that need cutting down as they have a disease. Cherry wood is good for turning but they will have to dry for a year or so. He made a lovely little bowl and lid for our neighbour once and it had pride of place on her dresser in the hall.
Frank glad you got home safely from the pub.
Off to do some work now............. :-) :-) :-) :-)

Yes, Mel all but my son. He had his 5 minutes of glory on NYE ;-) It's terrible, first gastro I have had in over 11 years, not one to catch it. I was hoping someone would shoot me. Still not eating. That little witch of mine is always bringing bugs home - it's like a kindergarten here. Now Keith has got a cold too. It only leaves you for a day or so and then you get the runs again. It's all over N.S.W. and putting people in hospital.
Hope the colds are settling. I just popped in to let you know where I have been. Jane, Fitz wouldn't have had a chance in hell of spending a penny at this house over the last few days - no seats vacant anywhere ;-)
Will have to leave all your posts for another day. Want to read William's story and Ann's tales on horseback.
Should go to bed now, so farewell all. Hope to chat tomorrow xx. 11.22 DST

Afteernoon all,
Taken me agres to read all thats been going on.
Glad you are O.K. Kim. It must be even worst for you, not being 100% anyway.
David, You certainly bought back some memories of the newspapers. The times it went up the Chimney, an d set light to the soot. We would run outside to see the sparks flying out of the chimney pot. We also used a lot of COKE at it was so much cheaper than coal, That would spit like mad ans if you didn't have the guard around the fire it would burn holes in the rug. I remember as a kid kneeling down to poke the fire and knelt on a hot cinder. Burnt right through me shin, still have the scar !!!!
The wind round here has been really bad. It blew over one of the water butts outside the greenhouse and flattened loards of cabbages and split the barrel. The neighbours plastic greenhouse has lost loads of panels, He will be knocking on doors trying to find them :-) :-) :-) Both my sheds have stood up to the wing also my greenhouse. Ros just called me to say theres a big blue thing outside the bathroom window. It's a spare Water barrel, that has blown up the drive. The chap across the road has lost his T.V. Ariel.
The wind is still very strong out there and when the rain comes it's like Stones hitting the conservatory.
Hope all's well with you Shirl, and that the snow stays away for a time yet.
Got a bit of a runny nose today, Conrad was full of cold over the New Year, so I might have picked it up from him. THANKS.
Jane, Did you say that Chris has a birthday on the 29th. My daughters is the 30th. as is the anniversary of my dads death.
Ros has just gone to Matala# to return some purcheses that didn't fit. What will she come home with now. ???
Kim, You know the old saying "FEED A COLD, Starve a FEVER" so you are doing the right thing. Are you taking anything for it ??
BLUE SKY AND SUNSHINE NOW !!!!

Hope you are feeling better soon Kim. There's lots of colds and flu around at the moment. I've given up blowing my nose and just keep sniffing, my nose is sore and so red I could Rudolph a run for his money.
I don't remember us having an open fire, can't remember what they are called but my dad put in a fire that you closed the door on. In Spain they used to, and probably still do have fires under the table, which sounds a bit weird, not fires with flames, more like a barbeque with hot coke and the table would have a very heavy cloth over it and we would all sit huddled round the table, don't think I have described it very well.
I liked the three or four layered liquorise and would peal each one off and eat them one at a time. Loved walnut whips, there was always a walnut inside at the bottom as well as the one outside, last time I had one they didn't have the walnut inside ..... cut backs ......
I was awake on and off all night listening to the wind howling, thought I would see at least one fence or tree down this morning but everything is still intact.

I recall sometimes being told to leave the fire alone if I poked it.Was told I'd poke it out.
Chimney fires look so spectacular because its the soot lining the chimney that's burning with a strong updraft from below.
I lived in one house where the chimneys were back to back with the house next door.Wonder we didn't share the chimney.
Soot is useful in the garden.Stops slugs or some insects.

Rain has finally stopped at last .
We used to have a concrete coal bunker outside the back door used to have to fill the coal scuttle several times a day to keep the fire going . Maureen are you thinking of the Parkray fire , they had a little door on the front and a bit at the bottom that you opened up to get the fire to draw and a lever on the top that you could slide across not sure what that was for,we use to burn Coke on ours.
Pat i use to have a washer and a separate spin drier then we had the twin tub, they were quite heavy to move about ,i remember we kept ours in the cupboard under the stairs ,hubby would push it up to the sink for me to use , you use to have to put the pipe over the sink when you pumped it out !!
