I love Barra Brith. Many years ago when we were first married Chris used to do a bit of cooking and he did a great Barra Brith. It was delicious with lots of butter.
Shame he doesn't have the time these days to do any baking.Oh well maybe when he retires in a couple of years.

Hi David how are you and Ellen?

Well we have'nt had the heating on at all today but my knees are just getting cold so I think I shall turn it on and get dinner on the go. Chicken tonight with rice for him and I think I shall have a jacket potato with broccoli.

8.17pm.

YES Mel, caught the first one last week, looks like it could be a good series.

Hi, David. Where the hell have you been hiding. Any news on the house ???

No heating here all day, but on now as Ros is drying some bits on the Rads. to wet out today to dry. if you know what i mean.

We had a travelling shop come round our way when a boy. My sister use to put her head unver the vinegar tap of the barrel and turn it on, she drank vinegar like I drink a pint. She's still alive and kicking. I thought it would have rotted her insides.

No ,haven't watched Marchlands Mel.
Aloe Vera is very good for rubbing into cuts.I had a plant on my window sill and used it for cuts and burns.Very soothing.I would just break off a leaf and squeeze the sap onto the skin.

Gosh the funeral for John is a week on Saturday. That was sorted pretty quick.
Chris has just come in so am off to dish up.

hi everyone, do you remember the rag and bone man. he came evry week and we would give him any old rags (dads shirts etc) and get a stone for cleaning the front step. brown or whire stones. But one day a different rag bone man came selling white hunter hats, they were left over from the war, like a hard hat with a brim all in white, well of course we all wanted them but they wanted money not rags, we had no money, so some of the lads distracted the man and pinched some of the hats, another boy pinched the half crown and got one but his mam found and and went mad. she chased the rag mans horse down all the streets demanding her money back - and she got it. I had mine for years i wonder where it went?

Afternoon all,

Maria, Were those hats "PITH helmets" I think they were worn in the Indian army. !!

Have been in the garden all morning, freshened up round the borders and sucked up a load of dead leaves from under the trees. I've put in a dozen primroses round the front garden. Should look nice when all the bulbs and wallflowers come out. I had to throw away three box's of APPLES this morning. They had all been wrapped in newspapers and stored the the garage. When I looked this morning, they have all gone soft and darked flesh. Was going to put them on the back lawn, but thought better of it. They will only go all mushy, if the birds don't eat them.

Now started to rain, so got in just in time.

No nurse this morning, so Ros has cleaned herself up and put new plasters on. She hasn't got any "stuffing" to put in it, so that will be done tomorrow.

Watched that Victoriam Pharmacy last night. I remember ZAM BUCK and COLLIS BROWNE. Mum use to use it on us . Didn't know that Collis browne had OPIUM in it. Drug addicts at 5 years old, Well I never !!!!! Things they did to keep us under control.

Trust everybody is all right.

Afternoon all

Frank I must have been a healthy child, I was small & thin but can't remember being given any vitamins on a regular basis, oh wait a minute just VIROL. Malt extract ,loved it.

Just been to my last back class this morning , which was run by the local NHS Phyisotheripists ,
I now have to decide what form of exercise I will choose to keep my back muscles strong, One choice is to pay a membership and join the leisure Centre (can't get it free cos I'm not 60)
I can then go and join in other keep fit classes , swim or use the Gym on a regular basis, not sure if this will be worth while as I can't alway attend every week.
OH has said we could go swimming together on an evening or at the weekend , I'm a scardy cat when it comes to swimming don't like to get my face wet. lack of confidence really,
but I think that might be the best idea really.
I need to go and make enquires to the Leisure centre and see what the membership will cost and what days and times are before I make any choices.
luckily I have been using my Wii and doing exercises at home.
off to get some lunch

I remember Dr Colis Browne Frank! it was quite brilliant for upset tummys, no wonder bearing in mind the opium, it had a warm feeling as you swallowed it. You can/could still buy it, but of course NO opium, so the effects were/are rubbish!!! Don't remember Zam Buck though! Not too bad a day, weeing more under control, other problem is now cracked!!! Prospective buyers coming again tomorrow morning, for final look round! Will have to smile and look 'keen'!!! Must go up to Village Shop to collect 'pads'!! just hope they're there!!!
