Happy Saturday to all and hope you are well.

Due to the lockdown and now being furloughed as of this week I have decided to spend my time wisely and get back to the bug.

I had put this post up on here back in 2008 and received a massive amount of help from many wonderful people.
Reading back through the paperwork i'm still a little confused on one member of family.
I was given two options/listings for the name but still unaware after all this time which one may be mine.

I'm still trying to get my head around Helen Reilly.
I don't know which one is mine any help/advise I would be grateful for.

Regards
Samantha

by the way how do I update the title please x

Go to the very first post of this thread and by your name (in green) there are options to Edit, delete etc. Click on Edit and then go into the title and type there. Then submit as usual.

I suggest you copy the url and post it on the thread you started this morning to link to this one, or people might start answering you on both.

Hello Greyghost

thank you for that.
I have already deleted the post I put up this morning as I was thinking the same thing.

People will not want to trawl through all the pages on here

Please say how you got back to Helen Reilly - presumably, she is your direct line?

You haven't deleted the thread you posted earlier today. Please do so, to save people wasting time looking for info on that one. Thank you

You MUST - please - tell us how you got back to her.

What relation is she to you?

No-one can really help unless you tell us that

Samantha

Samantha Report 25 Apr 2020 16:45

Helen Reilly is my Great Grandmother.
Born 29/08/1886 in Ireland
She married my Great Grandfather Andrew Donachie in Scotland 06/10/1913
And sadly passed away 03/11/1969 in Dunoon Scotland.

How do you know she was born in Ireland?

What evidence is there, please?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 25 Apr 2020 16:50

DONACHIE
HELEN

1969
510/1 180
Dunoon

What does the death cert say about her parents?

Samantha

Samantha Report 25 Apr 2020 17:00

Helen's parents are listed as Patrick Reilly and Mary Murphy.

Did she give the same info about them on her marriage cert?

You haven’t said why you think she was born in Ireland

Samantha

Samantha Report 25 Apr 2020 17:57

This is the names on her marriage cert and death cert.
At the time when I was starting my research there was two other family members doing the same and had the information that helen was born in Ireland, they are no longer researching.
I do have some paperwork somewhere in a wooden box saying she was born Cork Ireland.

It would be worth finding the paperwork to see whether it is actual proof, or just someone’s idea.

Her father’s occupation should be on her marriage cert - what was it?

None of the census records you have copied shows a birthplace in Ireland

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 25 Apr 2020 18:43

If she was indeed born in Ireland, she isn't any of the Helens in the censuses you have posted, as they were all born in Scotland - assuming the census info is correct.

The marriage, for our reference - she married as Nellie, not Helen:

DONACHIE
ANDREW
REILLY [ also registered as Rielly ]
NELLIE
1913
503/ 33
Row or Rhu

She may not be on any Scottish census - she may only have come from Ireland after 1911.

There is this Helen Reilly in Scotland in 1911 - but you'd have to spend credits on ScotlandsPeople to see any more about her.
There's a Henry Reilly, 22, living with this Helen - they may be a couple who married in 1911, in which case not your Helen.

REILLY
HELEN
1911
F
24
622/2 7/ 7
Shettleston
Lanark

There's also one aged 26 in Dundee, but she's married with a child.

If she WAS born in Ireland, she may simply not be on any Scottish censuses
