Tracy, Have you looked under Leary and Cleary? - there are lots of them! Have you got any idea of their occupations as this would help narrow it down a bit and had a quick look on 1891 and including all possible soundexes there are hundreds if not thousands of possibles! The problem with 1891 is unlike 1881 you can't search using a combination of people. Emma.

Emma, William O'Leary b. 1865 was a Blacksmith his wife, Elizabeth was Spinster? (on 1887 marriage) William Matthew b. 1895 was a Stoker (Factory) (said on 1919 marriage) William O'Leary b. 1844 - no mention on his marriage details in Cork. but on his son's marriage he was listed as Printer Found Elizabeth Ann Hardy in 1881 as servant. So only found 1 person! on the 1887 marriage William was living at 9?? Castle Street, district of Westminster. in 1919 marriage the address William Matthew was living in 49 Rosher?? Road, Stratford Hope these helps! Tracy

Right - just realised that Molly is variant of Mary... and after speaking to my mother, she just remembered her initial was M.E - So I'm Guessing it's Mary Ellen O'Leary as I've found on FreeBMD in 4th Qtr 1892. So try 1901 Census with Mary E rather Molly Thanks, Tracy

Emma Report 10 Feb 2004 12:31

Tracy, Molly/Mary wouldn't have been alive in 1891! Emma

Emma, Thanks but unfortunately they're not the O'Learys I'm after as Mary/Molly/Elizabeth (?) lived with her brother, William Matthew in 1901 possibly with sister, Ann (death date unknown but know it's from TB) in 1881 Census there should be William O'Leary aged 37 Mary age unknown In 1891 Census William O'Leary (1844) aged 47 Mary age unknown William O'Leary (1865) aged 16 1901 William O'Leary (1844) aged 57 Mary .. Age unknown William (1865) aged 26 Elizabeth aged 65/66 William Matthew (1895) aged 5/6 Possibly M.E or E.E age unknown

Tracy, I knew the O'Leary family I mentioned before weren't yours, I just wondered whether the reference you found for Mary Ellen O'Leary might be the Ellen in this family and not yours at all. So far I'm drawing a blank with this search- I've even looked at every William on the 1891 born Ireland in the London area of the approximate right age, but unless he's very badly mistranscribed I can't find him. On the 1901 I have found (listed as Wm not William): Wm O'Leary, 34, born Ireland, blacksmith, Kensington I can't check who his family members are as PRO have kindly jumbled the ID numbers to prevent the decoder being used! There are however, a whole bunch of O'Learys in Kensington including Willie 7 who may or may not be your William Matthew. Anyway it might be worth checking out. Emma.

Emma, That MIGHT be a possible unless they put the age down wrong as I know that my William was born in March 1895. I'll check that one out.. thanks for trying ! Will let you know once I hear from my great uncle as he's going to find out about his Aunt 'Molly' Thanks again, Tracy

Hi again I know that my late father, a LEARY, and his two eldest brothers were more or less forced to enlist in the army due to unemployment. Perhaps many other single Learys found themselves in that situation? Regards Di
