Hi, wondered if some-one has the time to look up in 1911 census for John Frederick Bainbridge and Maud Harriett nee Jones. There is a marriage for them in 1907 in Guisbro, Yorkshire . At the moment no further information. This is for a friend desperately trying to piece her family together with very little knowledge apart from some names. Thank-you for any help. Teresa

Any idea what year born and where?

Teresa

Teresa Report 30 Oct 2020 14:15

Thank-you Mel, I did find that. All my friend knew was that her Grandad Henry Bainbridge was bought up by his Aunt and Uncle referred to as Jack and Maud. I know quite a lot of Jacks are really John and was hoping this could be them!!

Mel, No sorry, she is trying to see if her elderly mum can recall anything but not hopeful so it is difficult. I do appreciate everyone trying though.

Mel, Oh dear, thank you, at least I am not chasing the wrong family now. Will have to start again!!

How old is your friend? Or how old is her "elderly" mother? Perhaps we could then guess at a possible timeframe.

And as you were wondering about that Guisborough marriage, does that mean that Yorkshire is possibly where he lived?

Teresa

Teresa Report 30 Oct 2020 14:35

She's 48, born 1972. Looks like he is the wrong John as his wife in the census is not Maud??

As your friend was born 1972, her mother was possibly born about 1930s-40s, and therefore Henry may have been born about 1915 or earlier, at a very rough guess.

If he wasn't born until after the 1911 census, and had left his uncle and aunt's home before 1939, there will be no record of them all together.

Is Yorkshire relevant, or likely?

Jack and Maud may have been his maternal relatives, and not named Bainbridge at all.

If one of them was indeed a Bainbridge, there's this marriage:

Marriages Jun 1907 (>99%)
BAINBRIDGE Maud Hartlepool 10a 301
HAND James Andrew Hartlepool 10a 301

Jack is usually a nickname for John, but can also be for James - or could bear no relation to his real name.

James's death:

Deaths Jun 1932 (>99%)
Andrewan James 45 Hartlepool 10a 157

Maud in 1939:

Yorkshire is very likely. I did find a birth for a Henry Bainbridge March 1915 registered at Selby.

That Henry was illegitimate - could be a reason for being brought up by an aunt and uncle:
