I think Margaret Lee's family returned to Scotland. Patrick and Peter are interchangeable.

, Looking at the birth of Robert Bell b 1877 Haltwhistle, it wasn’t thought it was him, I looked up where Haltwhistle was and it is in Durham so it must be him. Regarding Andrew Bell ,he was Andrew Lee on his Military records and Sleepburn Durham , Looking at the record of grand parents, Patrick and Margaret their address was Sheepburn Colliery Durham, so must be Andrew Bell. His brother Anthony Bell, b 1883 Lancaster, which I found was also in Durham.

Can someone fathom out with me the connection of Margaret Connor age 22 b Scotland, visitor, mentioned as being in the household of Anthony Bell and Margaret Bell I believe nee Dennison ,on the 1881 census, it states Margaret Bell was a Lunatic. Also listed in the household which seems odd , a Robert Ravean visitor age 1 yr. Could he have been the son of Margaret Connor. I know that Anthony Bell and Margaret Bell nee Lee in the 1891 census had a son Robert, checked the Gro index, Robert Bell b1879 mother Lee. Could this be this Robert Ravean. Found in 1891 Margaret Bell nee Dennison, wife of Anthony was in a Lunatic Asylum in Durham, she died in 1909. Anthony Bell and Margaret Lee were living in Pontefract area in 1891. The 2 sons of Anthony Bell and Margaret nee Dennison were still in Durham, The eldest David Dennison Bell b 1872 was a servant in a household in 1891 and his younger brother John was living with Anthony's parents in B.Auckland. But they both got married in Pontefract.. Obviously it seems now that Anthony Bell and Margaret Lee never married but by 1901 they were living apart. Also a coincidence, there was a Margaret Jane Connor b1875 grandaughter living with the parents of Margaret Lee, Patrick and Margaret Lee on the 1881 census in Durham.

Just found the answer to my above post. A marriage for a Richard Connor to Margaret Lee Sept 1874 Weardale which is in the Durham district. So the grandaughter Margaret Jane Connor b 1875 is their child and I would think that Robert Ravean could be the child of Anthoy Bell, Seeing that his wife was medically unfit she wouldn't know who perhaps this Margaret Connor was visiting

Rambling, Re your post Sarah Dennison Bell b 1873 I found her living with her widowed Grandmother Ann Dennison in 1881 in Stockton on Tees, must have been taken in because of her mothers mental illness.

Is her age wrong, on 1901 as 39?...(the 1891 Asylum says 42, wife of Pitman)...

Which Death 1909 have you found?

Going back I wanted to look for Anthony earlier, just to try and connect the Bells. This may have been posted before I know i did look at it,

This may be him, I wonder also as the name Mark is one of his brothers and may have carried down to his son?

Rambling . Getting so confused now , regarding Robert Raven b 1878 Cockermouth Cumberland you mentioned, which is on the west coast of England, but in 1881 he was in Durham , ( and only age 1yr and a visitor ? ) which is on the east coast. I am sure Mark was mentioned as elder brother on the Military papers of Andrew Lee, also states mother Margaret but Andrew didn’t know where she was living. This was in 1903

John

John Report 28 Sep 2019 23:39

I have just looked at the Military record for Andrew Lee b 1884 Sleepburn ,Durham. and can confirm the following, Mother Margaret Lee — address unknown. Brother, Mark Lee (older) of Glasshoughton Yorkshire.

John

John Report 29 Sep 2019 00:58

I keep doubling back on all the posts, This Robert Ravean b 1879, confirming Anthony and Margaret Bell in the 1891 census living in Brotherton Yorkshire and Robert Bell b 1879 was with them. Found the Military records for Robert Bell b 1879 Sturry Hill Durham, stating he lived in Glasshoughton Yorkshire, he was wounded, and later died on board the H.S. Soudan, he was buried at sea. No parents recorded on the records but his wife and 4 children, ironically Andrew Lee / Bell named 3 of his children the same names as Robert’s children, also a son named Robert. I truely feel 100% that Robert Ravean/Bell is the son of Anthony and Margaret Bell. Margaret nee Lee ( Connor) must have left Anthony by 1901 because she had a baby Enoch Lee ( no father listed) by someone else and the children she took with her , they took her maiden name Lee although they were registered as Bell. The complication of Margaret Lee is unbelievable.

John. Robert Raven is the son of Margeret Bell, and William Raven, Not Margeret Lee and Anthony Bell. You could get the birth cert to be sure but it does confirm the surnames on the GRO index.

I was working on a vague theory that the mother of Robert Raven, Margaret Bell ;might have been Anthony Bell's sister?

On the other hand she could be the daughter to his brother John, there is a possible birth for a Margaret ( mmn Graham ) and so Anthony would be her uncle......

I think I would ignore Robert Raven and any possible connection for the moment, otherwise it will just get too tangled!

John Report 29 Sep 2019 14:02

I have looked on the Military record for Anthony Bell b 1884 Durham, His address 8 Albion Place Wainwtight St, , Castleford. Next of Kin. Father. Anthony Bell. mother Margaret Bell, both down as address not known. Brother Robert Bell. Old Engine, Ashley Yorkshire. 1915. Anthony Bell had his leg amputated so was discharged. Ironically his brother Andrew also had his leg amputated at the later part of his life. 1901 Anthony Lee (not Bell) was with his Mother Margaret Lee, brothers Andrew Lee, and Enoch Lee , living in Castleford. York’s. I now think that Andrew my step grandad was the only one that kept the name of Lee..

Statutory registration didn't begin until 1855 in Scotland. You will only get an entry in the Parish records for an 1848 marriage. Rarely do those records name parents.
