Spotted on 1891 census Andrew Bell ( who maybe would have been my Pops dad) states born in Yorkshire , on 1901 he is down as Andrew Lee born Durham his sister Agnes R born in Castleford but she I'd not on the 1901 . Looking back through posts a Mark Bell and on one of the Military records think it was Andrews, , he's mention as being an elder brother,

Looks like 1871 could be her, her parents must have lived in Durham because she surely wouldn't be in Durham on her own age 12. Another mystery Rambling, see one of her children on the 1901 census was Enock, Lee, found him born Pontefract in 1899 but couldn't find him or mother Margaret on the 1911 census. In 1901 she was in prison in Pontefract. name of Bell been written in.

What is quite interesting is that Maria Abel was a workhouse officer on 1901 census, described as "Girls trainer" so perhaps that is how she came to know of Enoch if he was in the workhouse?

How interesting, Enoch must have been a sad little soul to be taken in by Maria Abel.

John

John Report 25 Sep 2019 20:41

Oh how sad. Alviegal. History repeating itself, because Robert Lee b 1921 , his brother Andrews Lee/Bell son was killed in the pit in Worksop I 1955

Will rule the marriage of Percy and Margaret Bell out, thanks. ,Looks like Agnes R . Lee the same daughter of Margaret but in Doncaster when her brother Enoch born in 1899 Pontefract and Margaret living there in 1901. Wonder if Agnes was in a workhouse too. Can't believe how confusing the family is.

John

John Report 25 Sep 2019 23:58

Rambling. I have been on the GRO indexes and found the following children with name of Bell, mother Lee. Robert William b 1877 Halfwhistle, Northumberland. Mark b 1881 Durham, Anthony b 1883 Lanchester Durham. Andrew b 1885 Durham, Agnes Rebecca b 1889 Pontefract. The only one with the name of Lee was Enoch b 1899 Pontefract as you said with no mothers name. . So that's confirmed all the children except Enoch had the father as being Bell. Obviously all must gave altered when Enoch was born, Margaret must have been going through rough times because of her being jailed in 1901.
