Apologies if anyone has this- I know the middle initial is wrong:

Births Sep 1926 (>99%)
Hanwell William W Hanwell Kensington 1a 155

Not sure if it makes any sense though in view of birth date recorded on death.

First golden rule is never believe someone else's research. So the wives might be the wrong way round. We'll help sort you out.

Someone please remind me of the circumstances when a child might appear twice in the registers - James Hanwell/James Pickett.

ok this seems to fit with what other members found i just am confused as to why they are drawn on my tree if infact William Hanwell wasnt James's son..... unless James senior married Annie Hanwell nee cunningham and she already had a child?

BUT, Alexandra, don't assume he's the fella that married Annie, you'd need the death certificate to prove it, and even that might not do anything if they were separated/divorced.

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 23 Jul 2010 16:11

So here's the possible story.

1920 James Pickett marries Grace Williams.
1923 Annie Cunningham marries Ernest Hanwell.
1928 James is born, mother Annie Hanwell, father James Pickett. Registered in both names, so James admitted paternity (but there will only be one certificate).
1929 A second child is born to Annie. James suspects it isn't his, or maybe he has cleared off and Annie isn't sure whose it is, or maybe it is registered by a person present at the birth who doesn't know whose it is.

Alexandra, how are these people related to you? Do you know who brought up these two boys?
