Did she marry before he was transported and then stay in UK and remarry. Are these possibilities. Her name is not exact.

James Atkinson 1837 Burnley Lancashire, Yorkshire - West Riding

Junet Leithead 1837 Burnley Lancashire, Yorkshire - West Riding

pm from Denise

.the only thing that i have on jennet is that she remarried in 1837 to a james atkinson in burnley.

jennet already had a son called james letherd born 1832.

I also av a john letherd born abt 1833. I dont know if he was her son as well,or from a different family.

My edit. We can now edit the marriages above to Jennet and James Atkinson.

Next step. Look at census data 1841 and 1851 to see if we can find James Lettherd aged 9 and John Lettherd age 8, and then aged 19 and 18.

This is too close to be a coincidence. Note the Whalley district. But why "Mary" and who is the other Mary. When was Jennet born.

You do realize that this could be a completely different family. It just comes up all the time. They are there in the 1851census as well. Thought perhaps Mary might have been John's sister. (I did think mother but that is really stupid).

In 1851 she is 48 which means her date of birth would have been 1803.

Whoo hoo. There is your James Letherd. 1861 census aged 2 years. Which means he was born in 1859. Father John mother Ann. Does that fit.

Was your great grandmother's name Ann.

Denise

Denise Report 30 Aug 2009 13:34

sorry , i dont av a name 4 her. i do av a john letherd who married a ann pickering in 1853 b/burn. cud that be it.

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 30 Aug 2009 13:49

If your great grandfather was born in 1859 and his father was John, and John married Ann in 1853 I'd say there is a pretty good chance it all fits.

Have you tried drawing a tree out on paper and putting all the people on it with their dates.

I'm a great believer in visual clues.
