Hi Penny

Can I ask why no caravan and do you have anywhere in mind

I think for 5 adults & 2 children a caravan is too squashed.

We had thought of the Isle of Wight but looking at the ferries - it's going to add over £300 to the holiday!

I work for Haven holidays,

We only do caravans at our site but a few of the sites, they have 35, do have apartments and chalets, may be worth looking, dont think any on Isle of Wight, think they are all Park Resorts.

Let me know if I can help in any way

Thanks for the offer Jan.

I have been looking at Haven - looked for a while but can't find which resort has 8 berth chalets/apartments !?

I have looked at Park Resort too - they had no available 8 berth chalet/ apartment either - they did offer cheaper ferry crossing but I didn't see how much cheaper!

I'm looking at Hoseasons & cottages4you at the moment!

Can't think of any caravan that will hold 9, usually top occupancy is 8.
For Isle of Wight try changing the ferry times, you'll be suprised just how much it alters the fare. Also we found red funnel much cheaper, tho I have been told you can use your tesco vouchers towards Wight Link ( and apprently they are worth more being used this way than in the shop)

What about John Fowler holidays? they can be reasonable, but again for 9 people you'll be looking at two units. I don't know of a single accommadation on a site that will hold 9. You might be better off renting a cottage somewhere.
Think Hoeseasons rent cottages.

Shelli4 Report 13 Jan 2008 20:28

Sorry Penny read the 7 as a 9 must be going round bend!!!

Most sites will have 8 berths accomadation.

But be warned you find someone will end up sleeping in the lounge.

Hi Shelli

Thats another reason why I don't want a caravan - bedrooms are small enough but to have 4 peoples luggage in one room & only 1 shower room - they are just too small.

If it was just the 4 of us going I wouldn't mind.

Penny, tell me what you want from the holiday, ie. do you want a site with pools, kids clubs, babysitting etc or would you be happy with a cottage in a village with a nice beach nearby and places of interest to drive to etc etc

I would be happy with either - probably why so search is harder as I don't know yet which one to choose so am looking everywhere !!

Didn't know about the Tesco points for the ferry - will look into that - thanks Shelli

Ive been looking at caravan parks in Dorset so we can have a little holiday while down for a family wedding.

We dont care if there is not much on the site as we will only be sleeping there as we have other places we wish to visit.

Thanks for your replies.

Jax you could try www.parkdeanholidays.co.uk

I have spoken to the others going & we might still go to the Isle of Wight.
After messing round with the ferry prices & managed to get a 1/3 off (£50 - well £100 as its for 2 cars!) by going at different time & if I can get it with Tesco vouchers even better :-)

We have been with welcome cottages before and they are very good. They cover most areas, and have places of varying sizes.
