there was a thread running a few days ago that was endorsed by lots and lots of people and that was rubbing Vick on the soles of your feet - sounds daft but apparently it really works and loads of people swore by it. Let's face it you've got nothing to lose by trying it and everything to gain. Also I find personally that sucking a toffee is quite soothing

Will definately try the Vick one next time I have a cough. Sounds really silly, but worth a try!

You put the vicks on the soles of your feet at bed time and wear socks - I dont know how it works but I been sleeping through cough and cold like a baby.

I think I'm coming down with a cold so might need to try my own remedy!

It is supposed to work because the soles of the feet are very absorbent and Vicks is full of essential oils or something.

Don't know really but a lot of people seem to have heard of this.

I never heard of it till you mentioned it the other week sue - but its def worth the £2.50 for a jar of vicks.

Slice a large onion thinly and layer in bowl with muscavado sugar, cover with cling film and leave in fridge. After a few hours liquid will appear - take as much as you want to - it will ease cough and cut phelgm. (There is no onion taste). At least 4 generations of our family have used this and it works.

I prefer slice a slice of lemon and put one or two chunks of ice into a large glass of gin and tonic,,,,,it might not get rid of your cold but hey once you've had that you won't care

I told the manager of the charity shop over the road that tip about Vick as she said she had a stinker of a cold, and had been using Vick on her chest and forehead all week. Told her she had it on the wrong end so she said she will give it a go, hope it works for her.
Must remember to get some for when I get a cold, cos sure as eggs are eggs I will pick one up from somewhere soon and would rather be prepared.
If you have a tickly cough, apparently slowly sucking a piece of dark chocolate (as if ) is supposed to suppress the tickle.
Hope you feel better soon GilliamJennifer.

A cup of coffee generously laced with whisky and brown sugar.
It helps me sleep so I don't notice the coughing LOL
