This morning we had to have our beloved dog, Timber, put to sleep. He has not been well for some months now and I'm amazed that he lasted as long as he did - a real Stoic! However there comes a time when you just know his life has lost its spark, and you have to do the kindest thing.

Goodnight sweetheart,

I feel for you Sheila, it's not easy and not long since I went through the same agony.

He was obviously very loved and had the best home with you. Focus on the positive. Take care.

Night night, Timber.

Sheila,
KNow how you feel, it was 5 years since we lost our Tim, A very hard desision to make, even though we have another dog she looks at us as if to say I know Uncle Tim did this or that.
Take care and in time you will remember all the good times.
And the tears will flow and some one will say ( its only a dog ) and you will feel hurt because they dont understand how you feel.

Know how you're feeling sweetheart - we had to have our Geordie put down about four weeks ago - he was suffering - and it's so hard to come to terms with.

Sheila

Sorry to hear your sad news. In time, the hurt and guilt of having to do the "dirty deed" will go away, and you will be able to accept that it was the right decision for Timber.

I had to do it 11.1/2 years ago with my old labrador. Now I have an 11 year old Newfoundland, who is doing well but with arthritis setting in so I may have to make the same decision over the next 6 months or so. I also have an 8.1/2 year Newfoundland bitch with a heart condition (since she was 3.1/2) and we can't believe she is still with us. Hopefully she will still be with us a few more years to come (even though 9 is average), but I worry that when the older one has to go, she will pine so much. She loves company and will be left on her own, so I will have to bear that in mind too.

I'm not looking forward to it, but like you, we have to make choices which are right for our beloved pets.

My thoughts are with you, your family & other pets.

(((hugs)))

My thoughts are with you all - it is dreadful - been through it a few times - you lose a member of the family - only consolation you have given them a good life and said goodbye with compassion.
Our dog is 15 next week and we know the day will come. Take care - remember the love and laughter you had.

Oh Sheila I am so sorry...
I had to do it for my Bonnie 6 months ago...
He will be happier now though and free from pain. Rest assured he will be waiting for you...

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Scooby's Report 22 Nov 2007 15:30

Hi
What breed was your dog? please tell me a little about him, I well remember losing my dog Scruffy and vowed that I would never get another dog. 18 months later I got Scooby, he is a different sex and colour and breed, I didn't really want him but hubby thought it would be good for me (men know best!!), I also thought that I would not get attached to him but needless to say he has won me over.
I started to think that it is possible and allowed to love another dog. Scruffy will always be very special to me, she got me through some rough times.
Give yourself time to heal
My love and thoughts
