Sheila.... you did the right thing but even though you know that it is still so hard.

I miss my dog so much although it was 8 years ago I lost her. I have never got another one as I felt i could not go through that pain again.

Treasured Friend

I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And share her silent thoughts with me...
She'll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to His golden throne.
Although me eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me
And for her love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join her there, this much I know...
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with her bark.

So sorry Sheila, it must have been awful for you.

If you have ever had a pet and lost it.... it is like losing a member of the family.

I am so overwhelmed by all your lovely messages and kind words - thank you all, it means so much.

I've been preparing myself for this for a while, but it doesn't make it any easier, does it?

I've pinched the 1st verse of a Rudyard Kipling poem - hope he won't mind :-)

'There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear'.

So sorry to hear your sad news Sheila. Last year I had to have my mums cat put to sleep. It is heartbreaking. When I had my dog put to sleep a few years ago, it was heartbreaking.

So sorry to hear of your loss (the people who tell you it 'was only a dog' have no idea that a dog is a loved member of the family). I'm a 40 plus year old ex sailor who sobbed my heart out when my Bess died in her sleep aged 15, (and I dont care who knows it). Dont be afraid to grieve for Timber. Rest in peace Timber

Sheila, I am so sorry that the time had come to let Timber go to rest, and hope you will find comfort in the lovely messages and verses here and in knowing you gave him a good life and the dignity of a gentle death. It is always hard to say goodbye to our beloved pets, I have had to do it several times, but it is the price we pay for the years of love and devotion and pleasure we get from them.
R.I.P. Timber, old lad.
