Yes Paul, Events which should be happy often coincide with sad ones. My brother died on my son's birthday (17th February); my other brother died of lung cancer the day after his daughter's birthday and the day before mine (24th May). Those dates can never be forgotten, and they will always be tinged with sadness. Kathy x

Hi Penny, it makes every sense, same as my Dad and Daughters birthday being the same day, I always remember how happy he was when we organized a party for them both on his 65th birthday.... and she always reminds us it's her grandad's birthday too

Hi Paul Big dates in the calendar often bring back memories. My youngest was due a week after the date that my Nan died years earlier. My Mum asked if I could have it on that day! Think she was joking! Anyway he was born on the anniversary of my Nans death. This now takes away some of the pain of the loss of my Nan knowing that something good has happened on that day. I've waffled now - hope this makes sense?! Penny

My father-in-law Joe, would have been 91 next Sunday. He died in July 1993, but this is the first time his birthday has coincided with Mothers Day. Mother-in-law has 2 sons and just me for a D-i-L. Her other son never remembers birthdays, anniversaries or the like. If it wasn't for me, my husband wouldn't remember either! I think it's so sad, Mum is 88 now and I can count on one hand the cards she's had from her elder son - with no wife/girlfriend to remind him, he doesn't even think about it. He has 3 daughters - wouldn't you think they would remember? We will be going the 60 miles to see her with cards and flowers on Sunday afternoon. Her elder son will be there too - he lives about 120 miles away - to take her to Sainsburys as he does most Sundays and then SHE takes HIM out to lunch after doing his washing! This will be my 9th Mothers Day without my Mum, Mollie. Happy Mothers Day Mum. I am one of the lucky ones - my 4 kids and 4 grandchildren will come to see me on Sunday morning bearing gifts and handmade cards :o) Sue xx

Paul - I am blessed to still have both my parents and I shall be thinking of you and others on Sunday who are not so fortunate. My sympathies. Daisy

Paul, you haven't made people sad. You have given the opportunity of an outlet for feelings. Thank you My mum's name was Mary Maynard and was 83 last September. She had been fighting her own quiet battle against cancer since April. I remember her determination to beat it and be there for Susie's 18th next February. Sadly, it wasn't to be, but we will celebrate her being there in spirit.

So sorry Terence, we all without doubt will endure the grief of losing a loved one in our life time but the loss of a child is somehow a loss beyond our comprehension. lol Trish.

Terence, I'm so sorry to hear that...that must be hard, particularly if you have other children to make the day a happy occasion for I'm sorry to hear all your stories..but like you've said, it's sometimes good to have an outlet such as this..

Paul sorry to hear about your dad I am sure your mum will be happy just to be with you all. My sons girlfriends dad died at the age of 40 on her brothers birthday they find it very hard to celebrate, but each year gets a little bit easier. Debs.

Paul, I don`t think you have made any of us feel sad, just shown everyone that we are not alone and others understand how we feel. It is not always sad to remember loved ones, we have happy memories too. Frances

I know that it wasn't your intention to make everybody sad Paul, in fact i dont doubt that if anything, your thread has given people the opportunity to discuss(however briefly) their own personel expieriences, and somehow, just saying it out loud( or typing it) is a good thing for many of us. lol Trish.
