I have just lost my faithful dog after nearly 12yrs, he was a great big friendly german shepherd.my daughter & I had the most daunting task of having to take him to the vets this afternoon to be put to sleep as his hind legs had collapsed, when he did manage to stand ,we had to guide him in the house whilst he used the wall for support. he has left a great void in our lives as he protected my home from unwanted guests, he was my ears for when someone came to the door & my 3 grandchildren grew up around him. I am having him cremated & have his ashes brought home. I only hope it`s true there is a heaven where all the good dogs go and is free to run around.linda. update; A warm Thank you to everyone. for the kind words & poems, They are of great comfort to me at this present time. linda, this is for you. To have loved and then said farewell, is better than to have never loved at all. For all of the times that you stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave you. For the care that you gave to me so unselfishly. For all these things I am grateful and thankful. I ask that you grieve not for the loss, but rejoice in the face that we lived, loved and touched each others lives. My life was fuller because you were there, not as a master/owner, but as my FRIEND. Today,I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the Sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures. I can run, jump, play, and do all the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness,no aching joints,no regrets and no aging. We await the arrival of our lifelong companions and know that togetherness is forever. You live in our hearts as we do in yours. Companions such as you,are so rare and unique. Don't hold the love that you have within yourself. Give it to another like me and then I will live forever. For love never really dies; and you ARE loved and missed as surely as we are. by Ken D. Conover

Linda Your a girl after my own heart. I lost my soul mate a few years ago 'Bramble' My black n white springer. He was born on my bed (I had his mum Bonnie) He chose me not me him from the litter of 6. (he has taste lol) I know he ended up at the pet cremetorium in Royston Herts at the age of 14 and when driving past that way some time after, I saw a black n white young springer running happily accross the fields in the distance with a young girl....(I lost a baby and was told it was a TALL girl) ((thats another story)) I KNOW that was my Bramble! he was young/ happy n healthy. another story.... I used to look after a little jack russel when her mum n dad went on holiday. They really loved her but alas diddnt look after her too well. (Vet bills ) She had canker/ ear mites in her ears and suffered badly. When she was in my charge I took her to the vet. I also took her to the vets when her mum n dad were home (they diddnt know) A couple of weeks after she had died aged 14 I was near the woods (where we walked her) A young healthy happy Jack russle ran up to me all smiles and jumped up me.... in a flash she was gone!...I KNOW that was SALLY! Sally was thanking me. DOG spelt backwards spells?????? DOGS ARE NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS...... Gerri xxx PS...Mea They are lovey words. Thankyou... PPS... I have some of BRAMBLES fur in a ceramic pot and my kids have instructions that that fur has to be put in my coffin with me when that time comes.

'A Pets Prayer' If it should be that I grow frail and weak, And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then you must do what must be done, For this, the last battle, can't be won. You will be sad, I understand, Don't let this grief than stay your hand, For this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship stands the test. We've had so many happy years, What is to come can hold no tears, You'd not want me to suffer, so, When the time comes, please let me go. Take me where my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end, And hold me firm and speak to me, Until my eyes no longer see. It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail, it's last has waved, From pain and suffering I've been saved. Don't grieve that it should be you, Who decides this thing to do, We've been so close, we two, these years, Don't let your heart hold any fears. Smile for we walked together for a little while

Dear Linda and daughter, I am so sorry to hear of your grief at losing your faithful friend. I know the heartbreak from when we had our doberman Portia put to sleep. She also could not stand up after the vet trying every kind of medicine to help her. In the end you just have to do what is kindest for your dear pal. You couldn't let him suffer and panic like that, and you did what in the end was the kindest and gentlest way of releasing him from more suffering. I am sure there is a life after death for animals as well as for people and we will all meet again when our time comes. Love Kathyx
