The nice man from Transco has been out to have a little chat with the quantum meter (turns out the meter was faulty) He very kindly replaced the meter, told me I can't use the card I spent lots of pennies having charged up yesterday and said a new one would be sent out. So far so good. THEN he insisted on coming in and 'charging up the boiler' Naturally I thought this was slightly cheeky - OK, so my hair is doing it's own thing this morning based on pictures of electric shock victims but did he have to be SO personal. We cleared up the *ahem* misunderstanding when he explained it was the gas boiler not the old boiler he wanted to get his hands on. I desperately fought to keep him out of the house insisting I was perfectly capable of resetting the doodah (I could tell he was secretly impressed with my knowledge of the technical terms) but he came in anyway. THAT MAN SAW THE STATE OF MY HOUSE ! I warbled on frantically varying the story between burglary and hoping to win the Turner Prize judges over with my still life art installation when he grinned at me in that horrible KNOWING sort of way. I am still blushing now - I almost tidied up before I went to bed last night but thought 'Nah - no-ones going to see it' How wrong I was. Ladies - it's too late for me but save yourselves - tidy up!!! |

Well - when I eventually found the right phone number last night it had a real live human being on the end. (HONEST). The man was laughing at me so much when I told him that the meter screen said call for help and I did - I stood in the garden shouting 'Help' and not one person came that he put me down for first call out today. |

Remember the thread about Karma? Here it is in action. Sis in law phoned 10 minutes ago to say they are on their way over to drop off some CDs. Am I dressed? No. Did i take my make up off last night? No. Is downstairs a tip? Yes. I've just hurled the debris in the bin and the rest is shoved into a cupboard. Too late for a shower and hairwash so I shall feign a slight illness. Have scraped the paint off my face and they will see me without make up. Anyone living in Warwickshire brace yourselves for the shrieks of horror as they see what I really look like. Gwynne |

Oh Wendy.......FOL I know what you mean......... if I need to call anyone out I pretend to check my diary while I'm trying to work out how many days it will take to clean up I've realised that my house is cleanest AFTER I've had a visitor!!!!! When they have gone I feel so ashamed of the TIP (as it is fondly known) that I have a cleaning frenzy, but it's always a tip again when the next visitor arrives. |
