Hi ya BBec.Sorry about your mouth.I know how you feel.I woke up one night in screaming agony not knowing where the pain was coming from.I really wanted to call the emergency dentist but would have had to wake my son up,who was 5 at the time.I think I nearly broke my jaw trying to squeeze the pain away.It turned out it was the root canal. The dentist perscribed pain killers until I could see the specialist. When I went to collect the script, the chemist man asked me if I had a death wish !! I was stunned and asked him what he meant. He told me the tabs were so strong,I could kill myself if I took more than what I was to take. This has never happened to me before, you know..being told that about pain killers...anyway,see after taking them for one day,I was loopy,I swear,it was like being totally drunk or tripping, and my whole body came out in a rash.It was scary.I seriously cannot remember now wether or not they dulled the pain!!!! Hop-a-long.

Hiya Elizabeth Still can't sleep the pain is pretty bad and I think I have a fairly high pain threshold! Wouldn't mind as much but: a. The pain is steadily getting worse and b. I'm supposed to be taking the antibiotics with food - but I can't bloody eat! Can barely fit anything in my mouth! Very stroppy becx

Ah BBec,I can help you there.I gave up taking the pill because I couldn't swallow it!!!It kept sticking no matter what I drank, then it seemed to start dissolving, yuck yuck yuck!!!What I do now,is take a bite of something, even biteing a grape in half, chew it up and just before I swallow it,I shove the tablet into the middle and swallow. It goes down and it's over.Give it a try!! Hop-a-long.

Elizabeth - Have just managed to take my 2nd dose of the medication. Am going to ring my dentist (if I can speak) in the morning and ask what he recommends... I can now only open my mouth about 2.5 cms (from the bottom of the top teeth to the top of my bottom teeth). At this rate I won't be able to drink never mind eat! Am feeling well and truly sorry for myself, so much so I'm considering going to my mum's tomorrow so she can look after me! Love becx :-(

if you can't eat. then take the tablets with milk. Otherwise you will end up with a sore stomach too!

You poor kid, I really do sympathise. Ive had more than my fair share of abcesses on my gums and boy, in the middle of the night if you had the right tools you would pull them out yourself. It takes about 48 hours for antibiotics to really kick in. I know about the strong pain killers I remember my dentist gave me some and I was actually trying to sleep on the sofa sitting upright because of the pain. Im not sure if I overdosed on them but as I got up to go to the loo, the room started swirling around and I shouted to my husband. I collapsed on the floor in a cold sweat. SO be careful about taking them.

Bec I hope that the pain is dying now. I really feel for you. I have had a couple of abcess' they are bad the worst thing I did have was when a nerve was dying the dentist kept saying nothing wrong as I couldn't pin point the tooth then one night boy I knew which tooth. He took the nerve out so is fine now and won't be able to ache again. Hope you feel better soon. Germaine xx

Bec, I hope you soon feel better. You could always ask for your antibiotics in liquid form if you're having problems with swallowing. You could also try some of those 'meal-in-a-box' drinks as well, to help protect your tummy from the antibiotics. take care, love Sue

Sorry you are in such pain Bec. :( I hope the tablets are starting to work. Yes you ideally need to take your tablets with food, especially the pain killers as they may make your stomach poorly. (got my chemists head on now). My hubby took Nurofen and co-codamol alternately when he had an abcess as the nurofen would wear off after 2 hours but he couldn't take another for 4 hours. Check with your Dr or pharmacist which pain killers you have and you may be able to take something else in between times to help with the pain. I hope you managed to get some sleep and you feel better today. Claire xx

Hi Bec I hope you have managed to get some kip and the antibiotics have kicked in. If not, get straight back on to the dentist and if necessary go to A & E and see if they can give you an IV shot of antibiotics to kickstart the process. Beth :)

Aw Beck I really feel for you honey. I have been suffering with dreadful pain in my mouth and face which turned out to be abcess and gum infection. I had to have quite a few teeth out on June 29th and I was so depressed about it cos I've always looked after my teeth. Having anything wrong with mouth or ears is terrible you just cannot get away from the pain.. Hope that your dentist can sort it out for you. Take care love Maisie

Hope the tablets are starting to take effect now Bec - IF you've managed to take them that is. I was really suffering last week, was even in tears, and ended up in A&E (typically the pain is worst when the dentist is shut). All better now, touch wood, but I will never forget the pain I was in so you're not alone. Thinking of you. Hugs. (Gentle hugs that is!!)
