Linda, glad you managed to laugh when you had your tumble and hope your knees get better soon. What happened reminds me of my dear old ex-neighbour who is now in a home. She was widowed and one night at midnight she phoned me and said she had fallen in her bedroom and could I go round and help her (I had a key). Well in I went and found her on her bottom sitting against her bed. (She had dodgy hips and knees). She had 'walked' on her bottom round the double bed to the phone as she had fallen out of bed on the other side near the window. She had managed to get her dressing gown on altho inside out but was stuck between the bed and the door. What she hadn't realised till I pointed it out was that she still had her alarm round her neck and could have pressed that for assistance. I couldn't get her up so had to phone for an ambulance as had no-one else around to help. When the paramedics arrived they had a job to squeeze through the bedroom door to help her,and they got her on the bed and checked her out, could find nothing wrong and were going to leave her. Now I didn't want her left on her own, and I couldn't stay so insisted she went to hospital as I was a bit concerned about her - she didn't seem quite herself. They took her down on her stairlift to put her on the stretcher trolley at the bottom of the stairs (a hall entranced terrace). Oh how I wished I had had a camcorder!! Everytime the chaps tried to get her off the stair lift chair she squeezed the arm of the chair where the controls were, and kept disappearing upstairs again. Talk about pmsl!!! Took ages to get her to leave the controls alone so she could be moved into the ambulance. As she went in (now 1 am) she began speaking in a louder voice than usual and saying about all her previous ops (and there were many). Eventually they managed to close the doors and I was left to shut up the house and promise I would look after her cat. I left her daughter to meet her at the hospital, where it was found she had had a stroke as she went into the ambulance. Some weeks later she came home and I looked after her till she went into Sheltered housing and then the home. To this day, just thinking of her going up and down the stairs makes me cry with laughter - it was just like a comedy show, bless her!
