What do you call it? I've heard of Front Room, Lounge, Parlour, Drawing Room, Sitting Room and my favourite, The Living Room. |

When I was little it was always the Front Room and only used on high days and holidays! The main room was called the Kitchen and where the cooking was done was called the Scullery!! When married I called my main room the Lounge but here in Grenada they always say Drawing Room!!! Jacquie xxxx |

For my Mum, an Eastender it was the front room but my first husband's family had a lounge, so lounge it has been for me ever since. A little bit of snobishness maybe!!!!!!!!!! Vivienne |

In one of my old houses we had a 'family room' and a 'sitting room'. The family room was used most of the time and the sitting room was saved for special occasions. It was such a lovely house... it had a study with a separate front door to it, a cloakroom, a massive scullery, my mother had a dressing room attached to her bedroom and the garden was massive with a stream running through it and 2 bridges... Becx (now living in a one bedroom flat!) |

It was always 'lounge' when I was growing up, and the name has just stuck now I've got my own home. Mandy :) PS: Daniel, this led me to another question. Is it sofa or settee? lol |

Hi Bec, That house sounds lovely, we rented a house along the same lines when I lived in NZ, had fourteen rooms in all. I've missed something along the way. How did Bella Bec become Bruiser Bec please? Vivienne |

Its called the living room in our house. When we moved into this house which is fairly old it had a 35ft livingroom, and a tiny kitchen so my partner shortened the livingroom and extended the kitchen so have a bigger kitchen. Yvonne |
