Hello Vivienne! The house used to be the Mill House, it was three storeys and my sister and I had the top floor to ourselves :-) I'm now Bruiser Bec due to my allegiance to the DARK SIDE in the battle against all things pink and fluffy! lol becx |

When I was a child, our main room was called the Dining Room. There was no other general use room though, just kitchen, bathroom, hall, and bedrooms in a bungalow. |

mum's is lounge - she just uses it for tv really and the room she 'lives' in is the kitchen, cooks in the 'back kitchen' or scullery lol, oh she has a front room as well - not used! in-law's have front room (tv etc), back room (with dining table) and conservatory (grandkids use it mainly!) here I usually say living room I think - 3 piece, tv, dining table etc. other room is known as the playroom cos that was the intention when we moved here. has computer and sofabed and toy cupboards. so can't watch tv and be on pooter at same time grrrrr! oh and its a settee here! When I was a child, my parents called it the 'sitting room', but it wasn't downstairs - we lived in a fourth-floor flat. When I got my first house, it had a 'through lounge/diner' in estate agent-speak, which described my second house as having a 'separate lounge and dining room'. My third house was back to the 'through lounge/diner', my fourth was back to 'separae lounge and dining room'. My present house has 3 rooms downstairs - a dining room, a studio (for art's sake!) and a room which I refer to as the 'living room', so I can use the old Groucho Marx joke - 'Let's go into the living room - and start living!' (As you said last night, Daniel, 'a sick, sick mind'! LOL) CB >|< |

The room at the front is now a play room/2nd tv room. The room at the back, I call the front room which always causes confusion but what I mean is its the main room. We have a couch sometimes called a sofa. The back called front room is quite long so the end bit is called the patio door room. No wonder my husband can never find anything!! |

we got the living room at the front, dining room (with no dining table, and we never eat in here) in the middle and the sunroom (conservatory) on the back of the house |

When we moved to this house, (in 1996), my children were 5 and 2, we moved from a 2 up 2 down to a much bigger house spread over three floors. One lounge was mainly Red and the other mainly Blue. One day my five year old shouted out 'mummy where are you?' so I said in the 'Red Room'. Now almost 10 years later, we still call them the 'Red Room' and the 'Blue Room', (even though they are now painted different colours!). Jubletroop |
