I't's the 70 plus brigade that insist on shopping on a Saturday morning that annoy us - why they can't shop during the week is beyond us. They then stand in the middle of the aisle gassing to each other, and blocking everything in sight. If you ask them to move the just give you daggers. A chap I knew some years ago gave us asking them to move in the end and just jused to say 'beep beep' in a loud voice, which seemed to do the trick.

Morning Lindy! I've just been and done my last little bits at Sainsbury's. The shop was full, but I managed to get through very quickly on the basket checkout. Not like Asda yesterday. That was absolute bedlam! lol All the best to you and your family for Christmas and the New Year and thankyou for everything ;-) Jeanette x

Peter, how do you know tat those older people shopping (who, according to you should not shop on Saturdays), a Haven't got a fridge so need to shop for freah produce, or b. do voluntary work all week so only have weekends free? they may even still be working in B&Q, or maybe they look after the grandchildren all week. There is room for everyone. ann Glos (who is not 70 plus but who can see both sides).

just got back myself - in one piece lol! didn't need too much but gawd it was manic!! loads of people with 2 trolleys. not to mention all the displays in the middle of the aisles and the staff pushing big trolleys of stuff round to fill the shelves with. grrrrrrr!! I used the 'cash only' checkout and it worked, person in front had just a basket, so I got through really quick. off to the cemetary now with mum, hopefully it will be a bit calmer there lol!! Maz. Very busy but got there and back in about 90 mins instead of an hour. No problems with the over 70's today but then it is still only Friday.

marie from stoke Report 23 Dec 2005 13:50

Been there myself this morning and it was horrendous! no fights broke out amonst the 70s but a few flustered looking people queueing at the mile long checkouts. Asda was busy, but the checkouts seemed a lot less hassle than Morrisons. Marie

I know you haven't Lindy, my remark was aimed at Peter who was less than tolerant. Ann Glos

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 23 Dec 2005 15:59

Ann, You have no idea how tolerant I am, it is just that at 55 there is only 15 more years to go so might as well start to make the most of it. It was actually my wife who made the comment about the over 70's not shopping on a Saturday morning, and come, on you know as well as we do, that most of then have all week to do it when the shops are quiet. We both have mothers in their 80's so speak from first hand experience when they get to that age they become increasingly oblivious to the rest of the world. My mum often chooses to shop in the afternoon and then complains that there are too many school kids on the bus when she is coming home. We did suggest that this is 'their hour' and perhaps she should steer clear, but she thinks otherwise.

Mauatthecoast Report 23 Dec 2005 16:03

Over 70's not allowed to buy fresh produce when they wish Peter? I'm not over 70 either, but I certainly wouldn't like to dictate where and when folk should do their shopping!! I spent a good hour in our local Morrisons this morning and everyone was in a lovely festive mood. Merry Christmas everyone Mau xx

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 23 Dec 2005 17:51

Not saying that, but perhaps an eensy weensy bit of tolerance on their part wouldn't go amiss. Just checked with 'grumpy old woman' 53 year old wife and she says that the over 70's behaviour this morning in our local Morrisons was exemplory. We had mil with us and she did not put a foot wrong.
