Totally fed up with this house selling lark. Why do potential purchasers want everything totally brand spanking new and to their taste? ''I dont like the decor''- change it then for crying out loud! Sorry ...just totally pee'd off with it! Jess x

The best part of buying a house for me is turning it into my own by decorating it to how I would like it to be. Theres nothing like standing back and looking at a new wooden floor or decorated walls and thinking I did that and don't it look good! There are some very lazy people out there now days - it'll serve them right if they never get a house. Louise

Crikey, if I'd been worried about decor I would never have bought our first house. It had dark green carpet throughout and all the walls were painted a sickly pale green. The bathroom suite was avocado (that's sickly green, folks). Mind you, we were looking in the mid-1980s and all 13 of the houses we looked at had avocado suites, except one which was 'pampas'. In case you are wondering, pampas is a paler version of avocado!!!! Still, first time round, we were taken in by things like nice light fittings (which of course they took with them). Second time round I wanted to know where the stopcock was and where the fusebox is!!! nell

Jess I can't believe how many people think that way! But I'm glad they do as that's how I got my last house with my ex husband - had loads of potential but no-one else could see it! Sadly I lost the house but do as Mandy says - paint it all a neutral colour with minimal furniture etc and I bet you it sells! Debby

Boiler 18 months old ...'we wanted a combi boiler really'' carpets less than 2 years old... ''it needs all new carpets'' ''too much road noise''...what road noise? ''garden too overlooked ''- doesn't anyone else have 2 neigbours then? ''too near the corner''- 4 more houses before the corner... just so frustrating! have shares in magnolia paint by the way.... and plain neutral carpets. lounge is perhaps a bit racy - soft peach! the only room that could be misconstrued as not neutral is the kitchen- Beech carcases , beech floor, plain mat cream doors...and raspberry sorbet walls with chrome bits and pieces- i suggested i neutralised it but agent said deffo not to!!its a big room and it looks fab

Lol Nell - mine had an advocado suite in and I bought it in 1996 - don't think it had been decorated since the early '70s. Jess - sounds like you've done everything right - make you sick don't they? Debby

Jess that's such a shame for you. I just don't get why decor matters so much to people unless they're just time wasters. You should have seen this house when we bought it - stuck in a 1930s time warp and when we told the estate agent we'd have it he was staggered that we weren't bothered by the decor and age of everything. What I find really funny is that although so many people set so much store by an up to date kitchen and bathroom, these rooms are exactly the ones which are ripped out and replaced. What matters is the location and the bricks and mortar. Everything else is simple to fix. Good luck next time! Daisy

Its daft! We've been in our house for nearly three years and it is still a mess! LOL redid the kitchen first (the sellers said they had modernised it bless them! LOL) then the bathroom! The thing is although the decor was horrible and the carpets ghastly the house still has the original 1930's stained glass front door, picture rails and coving and they are the features we wanted, all the rest can be changed! I think a lot of people look, with NO intention of buying or even moving. Then they make some picky remark to justify their presence in your home. Jay

I think Janet is spot on. A lot of people are lukewarm, at best, about moving house when they decide to have a look at what's on the market. The excuses you are hearing Jess are the best that they can think off to explain why they can't go any further. I would not let it put you off. We are just coming up to the peak season for buying/moving house. There will be a lot of serious viewers coming out of the woodwork soon. K

Jess your kitchen sounds fab :0)))))))) When I was offered the house we're living in now the decor was awful, looked like it hadn't been decorated since the 70's but I expected a house that I would have to decorate to my own taste anyway. Juliexx

Hope todays the day for you. We lived under a flight path and somebody came to view and went straight out into the garden first, just as a Plane came over, she ran back in said she could not live there and went without even looking at the House,so why view it then, it was a well known area for Planes. Total waste of time .

She came... she saw...., She went again.... I liked her!Doesnt mean she'll buy my house though. She insisted i let Bobbin out...and the agent insists she must be away or elsewhere! Oh well. Stupid thing is , it isn't a 'want to move' its a need to. so frustrating Jess x

The bad new is when you finally find someone who wants buy the house they usually want all the extras curtains/blinds/lawnmower and when you agree to leave them they then stick in a offer of about 5,000 lower than you are asking. Louise

Jess Don't take it off - this is the best time to sell! I'm sure you've been asked this before but can't you extend? Don't try to get too disheartened - it's probably because you need to sell it that it's hitting you harder - hang in there. Debby
