I got all my stuff out before and sat looking at it for 10mins then decided i would do it later! I hate packing cos i never know what to take and what to leave at home, at least this time i wont be needing my usual 10 pairs of shoes :-) Sheila x

Hi Sheila, not yet, still wondering which is the best way of doing it....as suitcases appear to be out, I was going to pack the day pack items into the day pack, then put the day pack, sleeping bag and mat into a much larger rucksack. How are you planning on doing it?

Hi guys n gals I haven't packed as such... but I'm planning on putting my daypack stuff in the day pack, and everything else in my 'big bag'. Everythings in there already bar some clothes which need ironing... Paul

Ive packed and unpacked a couple of times now lol. Ive decided im going to do it properly on Thursday night, then if ive forgotten anything, ill go last minute shopping on Friday. All of my stuff really needs ironing again, but i think im going to just leave it creased as it is now(been ironed once lol) Andy I was going to use my day pack as hand luggage on the plane, and pack just a few essentials in it like clean underwear and shorts etc incase i lose my big Rucksack on route lol. My big rucksack has a separate bit at the bottom which fits my sleeping bag and mat etc. I think im just going to pack my day pack at the hotel on the Sat night/Sunday morning. Anna :-)

Hi Andy, i was planning to do it much the same way apart from i am going to carry my daypack as my hand luggage and have the bits i might need for travelling in that ie passport, money, phone, lippy(only kidding) etc. I think i might be trying to squeeze a smaller bag with my stuff for the last night inside my larger bag so it can be left at the hotel. oh gawd im starting to feel sick LOL Sheila x

With regards flying, is the idea to check in the big bag/rucksack and have the day pack (mine is 30L) as cabin luggage? Ah cheers, just seen your replies. I did read the emails but I think the answers to whatever questions I had got lost in the ether lol

My bedroom looks like an outdoor shop! I haven't packed yet but have got stuff in nice organised piles all over the floor and have the few bits that I have ironed hung around. I too am taking my day pack on the plane as hand luggage with a spare pair of pants and socks incase my kit bag doesn't make it! I have got a seperate bag to go in my main bag for clothes and stuff for the last night. I am carrying a mustn't forget to pack list around with me and everytime I am hit by a bolt of inspiration I write it down. I have also got to pack Ellie's bag up for a week as she is going off on her own adventure while I am away. So much to do and so little time! Jack x

OK stupid question time. I am right in saying that the camels carry the sleeping bags and mats? If so do they need to be stowed in a bag of some sorts or do they just get rolled up/fastened up and then that's it? Obviously trying to avoid taking any unnecessary luggage with me!

Andy ive no idea if im right here but i thought that the camels carried our big bags with sleeping bags, clothes etc in it and we just left the stuff for the last night at the hotel in another bag.

Anna

Anna Report 7 Mar 2006 12:37

I thought the camels would carry our rucksacks with our sleeping bags and mats etc inside. Is this not the case ?lol Ive got a dry bag to put my sleeping bag in though Anna

We only have to carry our day packs - the camels will carry everything else. My sleeping bag will be going inside my kit bag anyway - I don't want it smelling of camels! Plus it will stay dry if it rains. Jack x

I thought my day pack was going to be too big for hand luggage so i've packed it inside my big bag lol. I'm just using my small bag that i'm going to leave at the hotel as my hand luggage. Wearing my boots on the plane so that if everything does get lost in transit i can at least walk but will probably be very smelly at the end if it as i'll have nothing to change into.pmsl.

Anna Report 7 Mar 2006 14:10

Ah Jill i knew i shouldnt of told you about them lol Wots wrong with wearing big sensible knickers? Thongs are not very comfortable to wear when walking and i dont want sand getting everywhere do i? I dont have a spare bag small enough to use to leave in the hotel for the last night.Ill add one to my shopping list for friday i think! Anna

Right. There's no way my daypack will fit inside my big bag (coz it aint quite that big lol) so I'm using it as hand luggage. I'll make sure I've packed a few essential in there just in case... and I'll be wearing my boots.. I don't have a bag to leave at the hotel for the last night - I'll either carry that stuff in my big bag (after all, its only a pair of trousers and a shirt), or possibly talk some kind soul into letting me put them in with theirs... Just had some good news.. one of the lads at work took a sponsor form from me a couple of weeks ago to take round his mates... hes just phoned to say that he's got £100 so far and may get another £40 or £50 for me... might just hit £4k before we go... :o)

I too have some big knickers that I bought to wear after a minor op 'down there'. I will be wearing mine in the Sahara then burning them each evening to save carrying around any dirty underwear lol. Not burning my socks though - walking socks are far too expensive! Tracey - If you want to take some shorts on the plane I don't mind sticking them in my bag. Anna - might have a bit of room in my bag that I am leaving at the hotel too. Love Jack x
