am 37 this year and I'd still say 5'5 lol they do it in centimetres at kids school tho and i havent got a clue what any of it means - so if i'm curious then i just measure them myself!!! And birth weights in kilos means nothing to me......I need to know it in pounds and ounces lol |

I'm 27 and use both imperial and metric measurements. I can't convert the two very easily though lol I always say my height in Feet and Inches and my weight in Stones. I measure distance in Metres or Miles (depending on whether it's a ruler length or a car journey!) I weigh food in both Pounds & Ounces or Kilograms & Grams. |

I am 41½ so shouldn't be reading this really, let alone posting!! At school we were metric in all science lessons and maths, but imperial in cookery and needlework. At home I always had to talk in old money to my gran, though being only six when we changed over, I don't really remember using it. At home we ALWAYS measured everything in imperial. When we built our house we had to get used to metric. I still say our lounge is 5x7 metres, but definitely think in imperial! Temperature is a funny one......I think celsius in the summer...and fahrenheit in the winter. At the doctors they took son's temp in celsius and I didn't know if they were saying normal or high because our home thermometer is set to fahrenheit!! Merry |

I'm approaching 34 and remember measuring things in Maths at school using cm, but everything else seemed to be the old system. I think it's because, for many of us, our Parents would have influenced what measurements we used. I remember cooking with my Mum as a little girl and learning how to weigh out ingredients etc. and that sort of thing sticks - it's still pounds and ounces. The only thing I measure in grammes or kilos is the post, only because I sell on Ebay and that's how the post is worked out these days. Am useless at trying to convert measurements though - always asking Hubby what a distance is in feet rather than metres, or miles rather than kilometres. Hubby says it's because I'm old fashioned. lol Kaye x |

Trish It would depend on the length of the bananas I think! you would get slightly more bananas to the meter than you would to a yard. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 fl oz = 28.413 ml 1 pint = 568.3 ml 1 gallon = 4.546 litres 1 inch = 2.54cm 1 foot = 30.48cm 1 yard = 91.44cm 1 mile = 1.61 km (apx) 1 ounce = 28.35 gram 1 pound = 453.6 gram 1 stone = 6.3503 kgs 1 hundredweight (cwt) = 50.802 kgs 1 long ton = 1.016 tonnes |

Howie, not so strange, we do deliver to nursing homes etc and they amount they use at times is in the wow factor. Saying that we did have an order just this week where someone wanted just one chilli . I don't really care that I don't understand the metric weights and lengths - after all I'm English and will go by the English imperial system. I'm revolting LOL ps. how many bananas to the metre? |

I'm 22, taught at school to measure in metric (m, cm, mm, Kg, g, mg, L, ml) but I still use imperial at home, much to my dad's disaprovel - he's 55, but has had to use metric for work as everything was in millimeters. I always give my hight as 5'3 1/2 - 5'4, unless I'm asked by the GP who only seems to understand 166cm/1.66m! Strangley, I can only cook in lbs and oz! Envery time I try to bake in grams, my cakes are too heavy, so I've decided that it is impossable for me to bake a good cake in metric plus imperial measurments are so much easier to remember! |

At school in Maths, we talked about lengths of rectangles and so on in cm, and if using a ruler then reading the side that was marked out in cm made sense. However, for other things such as knowing my own height and weight then it always been imperial - ft and in, st and lb. So, I have used both but sometimes get lost when trying to do conversions between the two. |

Bec LOL xx I work in a fruit and veg shop so obviously have to work in metric weights - but I don't understand them. Most people come in and ask for a pound which then has to be translated to this foreign weight. to get the price on the scales. If they ask me for 500kilos of tomatoes I'm wondering what size bag I need, it sounds like such a huge amount !!!!!!!! |
