I'm assuming you were taught to measure things in metric - but what do you say when anyone asks you your height?

Thanks - I'm just a bit confused (as is probably everyone else) on why, if you were taught metric your height is always in feet and inches. :-))))

* Thinks, - what right have I to be looking at this thread?* Same with babies weights. Even the well published births of Labour ministers are announced in lbs and ozs. Gwyn

Bec

Bec Report 30 Mar 2006 12:04

Trish - No. Noone knows what it means lol xx

Trish

Trish Report 30 Mar 2006 12:08

Bec LOL xx I work in a fruit and veg shop so obviously have to work in metric weights - but I don't understand them. Most people come in and ask for a pound which then has to be translated to this foreign weight. to get the price on the scales. If they ask me for 500kilos of tomatoes I'm wondering what size bag I need, it sounds like such a huge amount !!!!!!!!

Vicky

Vicky Report 30 Mar 2006 12:17

Trish, 500 KILOS would need a very large bag LOL

Trish

Trish Report 30 Mar 2006 12:24

Vicky, see what I mean - I do not understand them, is the word grammes the one that I want? You wouldn't believe I've worked there over a year would you LOL LOL

Trish - If I order cheese at the Deli then it's 115g (a pound?). xx

Trish

Trish Report 30 Mar 2006 12:27

Bec, if I order cheese I ask for it by the pound. I'm one of the awkward customers :-))))

At school in Maths, we talked about lengths of rectangles and so on in cm, and if using a ruler then reading the side that was marked out in cm made sense. However, for other things such as knowing my own height and weight then it always been imperial - ft and in, st and lb. So, I have used both but sometimes get lost when trying to do conversions between the two.
