I'm with NatWest ... they are REALLY good and understanding when it comes to charges for this sort of thing. Glad it's been sorted .... it's worrying when it happens. :-( Elaine ;-)

Anne - do you have credit cards? Are they 0% ones? Maybe worth transfering cards to news ones and cutting up and cancelling old ones! xx

Hi Anne I thought that someone may have mentioned the site before. What I didn't realise is that banks are charging these extortionate charges illegally and if you challenge them they may give refund the charges. I hope you get it sorted. Good luck. x lesley

UPDATE Well I have done a little (all that I can) damage limitation. Changed some DDs to the 1st of the month so they get paid straight after payday. Have cancelled 3 insurance policies that I can do without for now - and have downgraded my TV package with Telewest to the lowest one. Maybe I should think about the odd lottery ticket now and then - you never know ........ :O)))

Have pmd you Anne. Hope you don't mind, Basically I've sent you a link to the money saving expert site. The site is worth reading itself however there's an article about how excessive bank charges are unlawful. Sometimes they will drop the charges if you threaten them with court action. The site says 'We have now had over 100 people reclaim their charges from their bank - some by just asking, some by sending threatening letters and some by starting legal action. ALL got their money back before a court hearing has been heard' Go to the following link for full details: http://www(.)moneysavingexpert(.)com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1141050760,24632 Hope it helps

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 26 Apr 2006 01:14

Had the same problem over the Christmas period and beyond cos each time I thought I was sorted out, another charge I had forgotten they had 'promised' came out and sent me over the allowed overdraft again. Think I am in the clear now but really p****d off with it all - and guess who it was Elaine, yes, the wonderful all singing all dancing Halifax. Can't change banks till I clear my overdraft but if I can do it, I will. My mortgage is with them too.

ஐ+*¨^¨*+e+*¨^¨*+ஐ Mildred Honkinbottom Report 25 Apr 2006 18:38

I had the same trouble 2 years ago We were on holiday in skeggy, when I bought something with my card which had our holiday money on, unfortunatly it diddnt have an overdraft and silly me thought if I never had enough, payment would be refused in the shop. I was over by about 6 quid, and diddnt realise it, diddnt use my card again for the remainder of the holiday. Came home to 3 letters from the bank, 90 quid in charges. Next day was at the bank on opening, demanding I saw someone. Even though Id never been in the red in my life, and Id been a member since I was a small child they still insisted on the charges. I was disgusted. I was going to withdraw all money from the bank but had to wait 3 months as they were going to take out one charge per month and wouldnt accept a lump sum. In the end I forgot and now my wages go in the bank so I cant be bothered to change now The bank...Halifax Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

who in blazes do you bank with???? last month I had a DD and there wasnt enough in the bank to cover it and got slapped with a charge........they were due to take the £39 charge off within 10 days and I knew that I wouldnt have the money in the bank within that time therefore it would bounce all over again.....phoned them up and the lovely guy on the other end said they would waver the charge as a goodwill gesture - right there on the spot!!! Honest Anne......I think you should look at changing banks too.... jx
