As well as the great advice given by members, to drink plenty of fluids, keep cool, lots of suncream etc Something just as important has crossed my mind.

BURGLERS ! When you leave your house, SHUT all your windows, that are on your ground floor. If you cant bear coming home to the heat, and you really must leave a window open, leave either your telly or your radio on so it can be heard whilst standing outside that window. It will appear that the house is occupied. This time of year is easy pickings for burglars, with windows left open and easy access gained. Dont let your house fall prey Elaine x

Very true Elaine but if a burglar gets into our house there will be lots of blood everywhere when the dog gets hold of him (can the burglar sue us for being bitten do you think? - Yes, he probably can these days!!!).

Wise advice Elaine, when I go out I always close all windows, we have a toe-rag just a few doors down, and wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him, and that 'aint far believe me...lol Bev

Excellent advice and please be careful even when you are at home with all the doors and windows open!!! While my aunt and uncle were pottering about doing a bit of weeding in their front garden, some low life came in the wide open back door and nicked every penny in the house, purse, wallet and a load of cash they thought was safely hidden in the bedroom. They saw and heard nothing! Bev x

living in a bungalow, i take the usual precautions, such as security lights, and alarm...it's tempting in this weather to leave a window open when popping out to the shops...but i don't. best buy a large fan, but as it would only be required a few days a year, it's not a good investment in my case. bryan.

Course it would Bryan Its worth its weight in gold if even only used for a few days at the mo ! Got our pedestal fan on Salisbury's, just under £13 !! (In Argos they are twice or more the price ) Stay cool Elaine x

While we're talking of warnings.... Please be careful where you leave aerosol cans. I've known them to start fires. In one case an aerosol can was left on a dressing table one morning. During the day, the sun moved round and shone directly on it and the heat build-up made it explode and set the bedroom on fire, while the house owners were out at work. Gwyn

Aerosols..........add that forgotten can of de-icer if it explodes in the boot................oooooooh! nasty Bob in view of the heat......Paid a visit to someone the other day, and Noticed that they had solar panels on their double garage roof.....being b' nosey I asked if they worked and were they worth the expense...........Sure do was the reply, but they are only for heating the swimming pool............ Boom boom........

Another tip, (because I have been inundated with phone calls about it today) If you have Upvc patio doors, do NOT unlock them while the sun is on them. I know it sounds daft, but they expand in the heat and you will not be able to lock them again until they cool down. So, if you need to go shopping you will be leaving you house insecure

One other that I think is easily forgotten (especially if you are alone in the house) ............. If you have left the backdoor open to cool the house make sure you lock it before you settle down infront of the telly ............... light nights, warm and comfy on the settee, when you wake it you might have more than moths in the house !!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can - buy an air cooler - much more efficient than a fan and filters the air - you can either put ice cubes in as well or ice packs - reduced to £45 in argos - especially good for those with hayfever/chest problems. Always remember that temperatures are actually a lot higher in the sun than those given in the weather forecast - those temps are taken in the shade. Example - today at 5.00 p.m. in hot spot in garden cannot say the exact temp as the thermostat only goes up to 125! This is in south hants. Ann
