It's horrible when it happens but as someone who's had far more than I should have over the years, it's not really something to get worked up about. I think it's as common as a parking ticket these days cos they need the money! There's no stigma to it. Relax.

I have found this site very informative. What do other drivers think? http://www.safespeed.org.uk/speeding.html Bob

I do try to stick to the limits, but I agree that the way areas are designated certain speeds is chaotic. A Dual Carriageway, well lit, and with few if any slip roads could be 40 mph, while an unlit, country lane, upgraded by name rather than size to road like the twisty A272 is 60mph except through the villages. If I am considered capable of deciding if the next bend should be taken at 60, 50 or 20, surely I am capable of deciding on a speed suitable for a straight dual-carriageway. PS Felicity pmsl.

Linda don't worry so much.... IF they lock you up, you have a son there to make sure you get a nice clean blanket.... AND WE will all send you nice food parcels.... LOL Don't worry about it, those big lorries do drive too close. IT'S ALL HIS FAULT LOVE! :-0) Deanna X

Linda. You have the right to see the'' images'' that they claim to have, of you speeding. Demand to see them, you MAY find that the lorry was in fact tailgating you. and with the images you can prove your side of events. Think carefully, either you accept the nip and plead guilty in which case you will likely be fined and pointed, or you plead not guilty and go to court and offer your explanation, of which the magistrate may take into consideration. You have nothing to lose by going to court. And a clean licence to gain. Bob

Oh for sensible limits! (But if drivers were better trained there would be no need for limits at all.) There's a bit I use to and from work, 30mph limit but dead straight with a reservoir on one side and a railway on the other. Two lanes wide on one side and three on the other. No pedestrians. Zero chance (or less!) of anything (except a low-flying duck) or anyone crossing your path. Safe for 50mph at least. Two speed cameras one side, one the other. And then they wonder why people do not take speed limits seriously and count speed cameras as tax gatherers.

Proof that you just can't win, Linda. My commiserations.

Hi All, I have just got back from making myself drive down that road. Did exactly 30 mph. Got overtaken by almost every car beeped by two and got a rude sign as he went by by one. Think I'll go a different route. Linda

don't you just hate it when these bully boys sit right up behibd you and try to make you exceed the limit? And no doubt if he was caught as well his firm will pay the bill, because they are the ones that insist on the deliveries being done in a set time. sorry about the fine, the points and the humiliation Linda, but well done for confessing and raising our awareness to the punishments for speeding. I do try and stick to the limits but there are some places where it is difficult to see why they are 30mph and sometimes I feel I am more of a danger because I have to keep watching the speedo than I would be if doing 35. Hi Bob, There are no speed cameras but the letter says they have photographic evidence. So son says it wouldn't have been a speed trap as I would have been pulled over further down the road. It must have been a van with a camera on, which are placed there unattended and then the films are collected later in the day. Linda

sorry to hear that you have got done,47 IS a bit quick in a 30 limit.........BUT I wish, as was said earlier, speed limits were sensibly installed..........for example there is a stretch of road, between yaxley and stanground that is mostly 30 but in places for about a couple of hundred yards. the limits change to 40.............the straight bits are 30/40 there is a twisty bit that is 60...... what was the method of you being caught? a camera? Bob

Again just to let everyone know that their are no excuses. This road is long straight, no turnings off either side for the whole way no buildings, just golf course on one side and fenced fields on the other. If you see the very rare pedestrian you wonder where they are going as it would be a very long walk. You are always harassed to go faster than you want to and I think that's the first time I've succumbed and it'll be the last Linda

Actually I expect no sympathy at all. With a son who deals with the aftermath of accidents all the time I will NEVER do it again you can be sure of that. Linda
