from Met Police 'Notice of Intended Prosecution' for driving (hangs head in shame) 47mph on a 30mph road...............................60 years old this year and never even had a parking fine.. I went beserk having no knowledge of any fines etc. and was sure I was going to be banned.... Rang my son, who embarrasingly for me in the circumstances, is in the Met. Police, crying my eyes out. and found out that it will be a fixed penalty and three or four points on my licence........I can even remember when it was.....It's a long straight road of about a mile and there was a great big lorry behind me (no excuses) so I just went a bit faster and a bit faster...............Have calmed down a bit now.... Made son say about 10 times 'You won't be banned'.....Have just got to tell hubby. He won't be cross just sad that I've been so upset...I'm going to wait till he gets in tonight....... Tell you what I've learned my lesson.. my claim to fame was 35 years driving and not even a parking fine..... But truly I am ashamed of myself Linda

It happened to me last year - I had held an unblemished license for 28 years - I was really upset too. I was doing 37 in a 30 zone.

Mags Report 25 Jul 2006 10:08

Take some consolation in the fact that the lorry that was 'bullying' you into going faster probably got done as well! Hugs Mags xxx

Kris Report 25 Jul 2006 10:08

I did inform my insurance company and they were not bothered at all - in fact my premium was quite a bit less strangely !

Poolmaster Report 25 Jul 2006 10:08

you were lucky, 47 in a 30? blimey. having had my neighbour killed last month at 16 years old and watching the advert with the girl against the tree, im afraid to say i have little sympathy. hope you learn your lesson.

Kris

Kris Report 25 Jul 2006 10:12

To be fair Paul, Linda did hang her head in shame and said there was no excuse :-) I certainly learned MY lesson !

Linda G

Linda G Report 25 Jul 2006 10:19

I certainly have Paul and make no excuses for my stupidity. I thought about that advert straight away. Linda (who is truly mortified)

Actually I expect no sympathy at all. With a son who deals with the aftermath of accidents all the time I will NEVER do it again you can be sure of that. Linda

Linda,It happens, put it down to experience, you got caught plenty dont, who speed all the time, dont worry too much:-))

Linda G Report 25 Jul 2006 10:35

Again just to let everyone know that their are no excuses. This road is long straight, no turnings off either side for the whole way no buildings, just golf course on one side and fenced fields on the other. If you see the very rare pedestrian you wonder where they are going as it would be a very long walk. You are always harassed to go faster than you want to and I think that's the first time I've succumbed and it'll be the last Linda

Bobtanian Report 25 Jul 2006 10:41

sorry to hear that you have got done,47 IS a bit quick in a 30 limit.........BUT I wish, as was said earlier, speed limits were sensibly installed..........for example there is a stretch of road, between yaxley and stanground that is mostly 30 but in places for about a couple of hundred yards. the limits change to 40.............the straight bits are 30/40 there is a twisty bit that is 60...... what was the method of you being caught? a camera? Bob

Linda G Report 25 Jul 2006 10:46

Hi Bob, There are no speed cameras but the letter says they have photographic evidence. So son says it wouldn't have been a speed trap as I would have been pulled over further down the road. It must have been a van with a camera on, which are placed there unattended and then the films are collected later in the day. Linda
