:) oh I can manage without them pmsl. No - advice on Birmingham please - I looked on the atlas and it's a huge city. What is it like? What places to go? They are into history and castles! Is it a dangerous place for young innocent Aussies?? :) Vonny

Will they have transport? Could they get to Warwick Castle or Kenilworth Castle or Stratford on Avon? Heather

There is a lovely Art Gallery in the centre and the jewellery quarter is a short walk away. Birmingham grew in the industrial revolution so thereisn't much historical stuff from before that. Gwynne

The best places to eat are around the canal basin which is near the Indoor arena - there may be a concert worth seeing. Gwynne

Thanks for answering Heather and Gwynne. They will be billeted and so I expect that they will only have public transport available or where-ever their hosts will take them. Vonny

Bourneville itself is a 'purpose built' village with a long history - google it for more details Gwynne

Would recommend Warwick Castle - enough there for a whole day. Kenilworth is a ruin but is lovely - VERY atmospheric and well worth a visit.

Gwynne, I will google. Also I think they are going to use Google Earth but have to wait a few days because they have used up all their download allowance. Thank you everyone for the suggestions :) Will they be able to understand the locals???? :) Vonny

According to Garry Sidney,,the best thing about Birmingham is the road out of town

They could always hop on the train at New Street and come to Coventry for the day! Old cathedral, new cathedral, guildhall, priory ruins, medieval Spon Street, British Museum of Road Transport with land speed record simulator and all sorts of other exciting things, and then a drink and a meal across the road in Priory Place. All that and only half an hour away from Birmingham... Sheila

There is the site of a Medieval house nearby at Weoley Castle. Kings Norton is steeped in History including the old school. Cannon Hill Park, across the road from the Edgbaston Cricket Ground is an excellent place to chill, particularly at the Midlands Arts Centre. Also right by there is the BBC Pebble Mill TV studio. Bournville itself is an estate built by Cadburys to house their workers. A far cry from the rabbit hutches the Lancashire textile workers were supplied. As Cadburys were Quakers there are no Pubs in Bournville, but can be found around the perimeter! If they are into Curry they should visit Ladypool Road or Stoney Lane which is near Moseley Village.
