that you didn't keep your maiden name when you married? If I was getting married again I think I'd want to keep the name I was born with.

Yes and no - I am currently divorced ( but living with a partner) and use my ex husbands surname, because it is quite unusual.

I'm now stuck with a name that I don't particularly like - I was silly to change it.

Only bugbear is that I have to spell my married name every time I use it, but maiden name I wouldn't have had that problem. Sunny

Perhaps I should do something about it then instead of just quietly moaning to myself (and you lot lol). Next question - do you think I should tell OH? He may not notice :-))))

I did not change my name when I got married - hubby changed his to mine instead. This was a decision I made for myself years before I met and married my hubby. Julia

I wish I'd kept mine - I'm the last on our line. But it was thought of as a bit odd then. A few years later and it would have been OK. Gwynne

i took my husbands surname and feel as though i lost part of my identity when i changed my name! my friends all know me by my maiden name even the ones i met after i was married, i make sure that everyone who knows me, knows the name i was born with.

Claire

Claire Report 29 Aug 2006 18:27

Not all all sorry. Never really analised my feelings (or lack of) on it. I married. I belong with my hubby, we both share the same name. I couldn't imagine being 'Mr S and Ms B' instead of 'Mr and Mrs S' Claire xx

Julia, well done you. This is just what I asked on the thread for the men - would they change their name to the females name?

When I got married, it was almost considered normal to keep your married name. I have a little unconventional streak, so changed it. Well, I'd had the same surname for 30 odd years and fancied a change. My husband is 2 letters nearer the beginning of the alphabet too, so that was a bonus when people were riffling through files. I do retain my maiden name as an initial on my bank account, cards etc, but that's because my blinky first & surname now are sooo common (my sister in law has same names!) that I wanted to make a distinction. But now I've traced my ancestors, I could have chosen Emmets or Smoothy or Chowns or Eplett to really stand out. nell
