Yes Lynn, so many sweets, I used to love dolly mixtures as well, but when I bought them for my kids (in their 30's now) they would be in little packs and cost a lot, whereas we had 2 ounces, or quarters of sweets in a white bag, taken from a glass jar on the shelf - ladled out with a silver scoop into the tray on the scales......how I used to watch that needle, to make sure I got my money's worth...... btw, you with lard.....reminds me when my Sis and I were reminiscing about my Mum, and how she used to spread the butter thick on her bread, so that she left teeth marks in it.... |

Lynn I remember when people on these boards were talking of a lard shortage. Was it you hoarding secret supplies? I'll give it miss thanks, I never buy lard so I don't think I'll get some in for sandwiches, lol Gwyn |

I remember having chocolate spread sarnies and treacle ones and condensed milk ones too, as well as the obligatory Jam ones. Hubby used to have sugar sarnies for his tea this was in the 1940,/50,s |

I don't like Ovaltine Lynn - the Ovaltine works was in Abbots Langley, a stones throw from Hemel - and I remember listening to the wireless as a little un, and them singing 'We are the Ovaltinies, little girls and boys...etc. I don't like it, but......I do love Horlicks tablets - you could get them in a packet and I thought they were great. Don't like the drink though. Do you remember getting trays of treacle toffee and ordinary toffee, with a little hammer in, so that you could crack it. The black treacle toffee used to play havoc with my Dad's false teeth, but he loved it - we used to have it as a treat from Watford Market on a Saturday...... |
