Um.........was just thinking and realised one of my favourite things as a kid was a condensed milk sandwich! Very sticky, sweet and messy.......more so than honey in sandwiches but yummy. Then my grandfather (Pop) used to make put two rich tea biscuits together with butter between them and I used to love them. You have to squeeze the biscuits together till the butter oozes out of the little holes in the biscuits!!! Not exactly healthy eating! Sue

Real Lucozade when ever I was poorly, magic cure that! 'Cold cocoa' - just a big spoonful of drinking chocolate powder, a spoon of sugar, and cold milk (altho no fridge!) Mum's homemade toffee or coconut ice or coconut pyramids! Always blame Mum for my sweet tooth, she had one and thought she was doing good for us by baking us sweet things, when sugar came off rations it was a big treat.

Brenda, yes I remember the licorice root. We used to call it 'Sticky Lice' for some reason, and was one of the selections on the penny tray at the sweet shop. My Dad asked for cherries for his 5th birthday (1942). I don't know how they managed to get them with the war going on but they did! He spent most of the war in Hollyhead, Wales with my GG Aunty Norah, who I had the pleasure to meet. I have a photo of my son sitting on her knee, she was his GGG Aunt! Deb

Sterilized milk ,or paralised as my OH used to call it. Mum used to have two pints of that plus 3 pints ordinary milk every day. She would water the sterilized milk so to make it go further.as we were a big family,.Horrible stuff, only just palatable in Camp coffee cos it dampened down the chicory taste. Better taste was Liquorice wood especially if you got a sweet bit,and Trebor Fruit salads and my favourites Black Jacks. Shirley

Although I haven't had any since my childhood, Wall's Peach Melba ice cream, which I remember to be quite tart. There was always a fight EVERY Sunday when my Nan sent us to the shop after our tea to get the ice cream. My Aunty (18 months younger than me) always insisted that it was her turn to choose the flavour (did I metion that she was very spoilt?). She liked Raspberry Ripple, which was too sweet for me. Funny thing is I still don't care too much for sweet things. Deb
