Yes I have 2, 1 upstairs 1 downstairs. A relative is connected to the fire service, every time he comes to visit,he just checks them. Just making sure he says. Better to be safe than sorry. Trish xx

McAnne - The answer is yes if you are over 60, the firemen will come round and install new fire alarms for free. I assume you are nowhere near that age, so you'll have to wait - or get someone who is over 60 to give your address instead of theirs and see what happens. Liz

If you haven't...PLEASE get one or more.....last summer had a fire which could have lost me my home (or worse!). It went from a tiny fire in the airing cupboard to thick black choking smoke in seconds, very scarey...would have been much worse if I hadn't managed to put it out with a small fire extinguisher....fire station 20mins away! If you do one thing tomorrow make it to buy a smoke alarm! best wishes Rose xxx

Went to collect my bus tokens yesterday and was met by four handsome firemen!!! They were asking questions to see if they should come round to the house to check on fire alarms, fire exits etc. The only question I could answer that gave them reason to call round was my age! Every other question I answered was fine, i.e. got fire alarms, not deaf, not disabled, not living alone. So-o-o-o within a couple of weeks, will get a visit from a friendly fireman - some perks with being slightly old I suppose. Liz

JackyJ1593 Report 20 Feb 2007 19:39

We have 2. One upstairs and one downstairs. We also check them regularly! Those who have firemen to test theirs had better give Donna the next testing dates so that she can just happen to be visiting! Jacky :-)

Not out here we don't, not sure whether we can get them. Concrete houses less likely to burn, but could lose the kitchen. Rosalind
