Has anyone noticed how text language is creeping into everyday written grammer, instances like Thanx, M8, i can see in a couple of generations of our kids & their kids the english language will be gone. Brian

I refuse to use it on my mobile....and won't reply to it. (probably because I don't understand it) I, personally, think it's lazy. But, things change, and who am I to say it's wrong...I'll stay a dinosaur with the English Language. Tina x

I could not agree more Tina - we are turning into a nation of lazy illiterates!

I do not use text language but I actually like Thanx because it means a 'Ta with a kiss !!!!!' Joan

Errol--lazy illiterates is right -I despair when I hear the younger generation-the beautiful English Language I fear is doomed--most youngsters think grammer is A RELATIVE, Dave

Dave I agree - please take this in the spirit in which it is intended. I think you may have pressed the wrong key by accident whilst spelling grammar. (I am sorry I couldn't resist but mean it in good nature)

I'm in complete agreement. Same as telling the time - most children can only tell the time with a digital watch and are completely (oops. spelling ? !!) stumped when asked to tell the time with an analogue watch. Libby x

Libby that is a great example of technology taking over to the detriment of education and correctness.

Joan and Errol, Quite right (am mortified now) but is an excess of Shiraz a viable excuse ? Dave

Joan Report 23 Mar 2007 21:41

Brain, I put it down to being tired. I think you put one too many 'p's' in oooopps. Do you think we would spot the mistake if we wrote in mandarin ? Joan

We had a surgery meeting yesterday and the Practice Manager suggested sending out test results by text --I was not in agreement --what if you sent it to the wrong person? Old fashioned way by phone for me who doesn`t have a mobile! Ros

Dave, excused only if the Shiraz is poured this way. Husband is out at a Sportsman's dinner and I am the taxi (or ambulance) when he is ready for home ! Must stay sober; so just a sniff for me. Joan x

there's no need for 'text' language when there is predictive text!! I can't stand children who say 'aks' instead of the easier 'ask' and as for the 'should of' instead of 'should have' - well my question them is: 'Of you done your homework? You should of' maggie

That's terrible Ros, what an awful idea!

Joan Report 23 Mar 2007 21:47

Hi Ros. It's a ridiculous idea to send such personal information through a text and I think it could breach the Data Protection Act. I work in a hospital and we cannot give details out over the phone and if we phone a mobile or an answer machine we cannot leave a message either, Joan
