On Monday night dear Charlie woke us 3 times being sick, twice in the bedroom and also in the kitchen. I thought that he had eaten something bad as he is always nosing about in rubbish bin. He was a bit sullen on Tuesday and sick again several times. Maybe it's a tummy bug I said and decided to starve him for 24 hours. However he was still unwell Wednesday and basically just laying around, he doesn't even bark or get up when someone comes to the door. He is drinking lots of water but won't eat anything, not even drooling at our feet when we have our food. Although Charlie is 10 years old and quite lazy, he has never had any health problems. Today Charlie looks very frail, he's just sleeping on the floor and his fur which is quite long is all matted and feeling very dirty. I normally groom him and cut his fur myself but due to building works at home I was going to treat him at beauty salon. I know I should be straight to the vets but to be honest I am scared. My sister's dog had the same symptoms and she was diagnosed with kidney and liver failure and having only just lost my mum I don't know if I could cope with losing Charlie. Does anyone have any ideas? |

Yes, take that dog immediately to the Vet. There is obviously something wrong and he needs immediate medical intervention. How would you feel if he dies and you haven't done anything? I'm sorry to be so harsh, but you know it's for the best. You're his 'mother' and you must look after him. Lew xxx |

Wendy, I am sure you know he must see a Vet soon. If you can't bear it, is there somebody else close to you who could take him for you? Good luck BC |

You know your dog Wendy and if you are so worried please take him to the vet. Better safe than sorry. If it is anything bad you don't want him suffering and if not well he will be treated for whatever it is . He does need looking at. My heart goes out to you it is so hard to know what to do. Lets us know how he goes on. Germaine x Ps don't want to raise your hopes but I think some liver problems can be helped hope it isn't that though just a bug. |

Wendy he could die if you don't take him to the vet. You must be brave and take him as soon as. It could just be a bug but you have to be sure. Sue |

YOU MUST GET TO THE VET ASP or call him out ,poor dog may be suffering in pain and it would be cruel for you to let him suffer,,,,,,,,plus if he died or the vet cant treat you could be charged with neglect,,,,,,,,,,,I understand how frightining you feel but PLEASE dont delay,,,,,,,,,,animals have this amazing recovery time......... |

Wendy, This has been going on since Monday and today's Thursday!!!!! I hope you've already left for the vet by now. Any delay in treatment could jeopardise his recovery. The sooner he gets treated the better the prognosis. Procrastinating and dithering won't help him any. Rose |

Hi Wendy My dog had similar symptoms last year. We found out after that he had been eating strange mushrooms that kept appearing in the garden !!! His belly blew up and he was gassy. He was lethargic and sorry for himself too. Vet couldn't tell me what it was he had eaten and just gave me stuff to rehydrate him.We KNEW he had eaten something bad but it took us a while to realise what. He was poorly til the mushrooms stopped growing. Then one day he went out in the garden and went to the toilet about 20 times continuously, his belly went down and that was that. He went back to normal again. Hopefully it will be something similar with your lad. Put your mind at rest though hon and take him to the vet you will feel so much better afterwards xx |

Thank you all for giving me a good kick. Charlie is now at the vets and he will have x-rays and blood tests today. The vet said she could feel a large lump in his tummy and she wanted to investigate before making a diagnosis though she is concerned. They will ring me later with the results which I'm praying will be good. I will update later when I know something. Thank you all again. |

Wendy, glad your dog is being looked at by the vet and hope they can sort him out soon. It is scary to see your pet ill but best to get treatment as soon as poss, saves so much worry on your part and pain and suffering on the part of the dog. Hope he is soon home again and his usual self. Liz |

Just to let you know that Charlie is staying overnight at the vets. He is on a drip and strong antibiotics. It seems like he has a large infection around the bowel area. The vet rang me to say that he still looks weak and weary but he is calm and settled. She will check him tomorrow and if fine he should be able to come home with medication. The house seems so empty without him I can't wait to get him home again. |
