So I sent this message this morning 'I am very annoyed that you have removed the facility to see the date of joining and number of people in a member's tree. Why was this done? I cannot believe that a survey said people wanted this facility removed. It could lead to people allowing others to see their trees in belief that the other person will return the favour - then they discover that the other person joined 2 days ago and has no data to exchange.' and another thing - one way we have of seeing if someone is likely to have just joined to cause trouble is by checking the date of joining of someone who posts contentiously for no apparent reason. oh dear Gwynne, i didnt realise they had took this facility away, my concerns are the same as yours, and i see no advantage at all for Gr to do this whasoever.. very grim indeed.. |

I haven't had the inclination to explore the new message system yet Gwynne, so hadn't realised that this facility had gone. Utter madness! Jeanette x |

Hi Gwynne I found it confusing the other day when I went to message someone direct from a reply to a thread, only to realise you no longer know if you have had contact with that person before. Previously you would know if the person you were contacting was one and the same person as the person you had been in touch with before. (Hope I am making sense, still half asleep) ;-)) Dee |

I hadn't noticed that, Dee. That's going to be very annoying when we do name searches. If anyone else is as peeved as I am please contact support and tell them. I'm not sure how much good it will do but it's worth a try. Gwynne |

I hope no one thinks because I've only 2 in my tree on here I've nothing to exchange. I took my tree off about 4 years ago but do swap info from my tree on tribal pages. Even though I don't keep my tree on here I'm not sure I like the idea of having to tick a box to stop folk looking at tree's, it could be easily overlooked giving access to your tree to all and sundry. It's far better for the tree owner to offer contacts to view if they wish too. At least we can still look at the registration numbers, it gives a bit of a clue as to how long someone's been here. I did have a very low number but left the site for a while. Re joined about 3 years ago so not sure what my number is now. Daphne |

I agree entirely. There are / were some threads on tips with similar points, addressed to the Genes team. I can only find one now. Also, Meercat posted a thread yesterday evening saying she could see people's surnames. I wish that GR would post a 'sticky' at the top of each board explaining the changes being made before they happen. |

Gwynne, When doing a name search such as tree matches, it does still show if you have had contact with the person as I checked this yesterday. I have sent a message to GR about the date of membership and number in tree though as this was a safety thing when checking contributions to contentious or antagonising threads. I know as someone said you can still work it out by a membership number but you would need to know what the current number is to get an idea. Jacky:-) PS Unlike you to be grumpy in the morning! |

I have always felt that a members joining date should be a private Data between GR and the member, and total tree numbers are the members own private information,I dont know others views? Belonging to other sites this is the only one that displays this information, But perhaps the changes will give GR better hidden control over the whole site,? |

I think they have done it to stop the newbies and new oldies rejoined rows. and the suspicion which comes with it However when member x decides to cause trouble we wont have any idea who they once was, if indeed they were someone who used to post under a differing identity One way of keeping track (of those you dont feel comfortable with) is to copy a post or thread onto email, send it to yourself and if you click on the names, the current identity will come up or even go into old threads on Gr and click to see any name change Elaine x |

Yes but why under elation doesn't it always come up? It is maiden name and date of birth too, great for identity theft! I don't mind the name but linking them together! Ann Glos |

Hi Gillian I added to your thread last night as i have the same thing. I got in touch with the person to ask if they could see my name too she told me yes. I think it's when you don't have your real name in your title. IE Julie Rasta Queen of Jamaica they get Julie_____ & dob in the bit that say relation in your contacts |

Hi Guinevere.. Am totally fed up with GR.. have sent numerous messages about contacts which keep restoring themselves onto my list...another 20 this morning.. I keep deleting them .. Surely because of all the gremlins in it, someone must be working on it to get it sorted? Or am I living in a dream world? *dream on Anne * |
