My son even does this now too, he found 8 folding chairs outside someone's house recently, went and asked and she was glad for him to take them away. Of course there is also FreeCycle? where you advertise stuff you no longer want/need and others come and get it.

Where I live in Australia the council do a twice a year pickup of any large pieces of rubbish that won't fit in the rubbish bin. It's wonderful to go for a walk and see what can be found. I have found an old cupboard for my laundry. A coat of paint and it's fine. An old cane chair and with a new cushion looks great and just perfect for sitting on the verandah. We put out an old bird cage, old wooden gate, bits of a washing machine, parts from half a dozen bikes and a couple of broken picture frames. All gone the next day. Hubby has picked up corrugated iron, angle iron etc. and then put them out with our rubbish for the next pickup!! Susan

Not the same, but along the lines of being green.....my Dad was there from his young days, always making something out of nothing......one of his favourites was wine......and there was a time when we couldn't use the bath, because he was growing a ginger beer plant????? One day I was driving to my house when I passed my Dad......a distance away from his own home......seemed to be karate chopping the roses in a garden.......I stopped and asked him what he was doing......he was collecting rose petals for his rose petal wine.......the only trouble the petals were still on the roses......the devil was shaking the roses to collect petals.....

Hi Rosi, My grandad, born 1905 had a 'bogey' and collected anything and everything hr thought would be useful, he would often saw down peoples trees for fire wood and collected scrap metal during the war, Ever on the look out for making a bob or two he once got my dad and his brother to pull a delapidated , old piano all the way across town with him, as young lads they were mortified!!! RIP Grandad Billy, Carol xxx

Everyone is welcome to come and empty my skip - it's here until Monday. I will be able to fit more in if it's being emptied at the same time. Tina x

2 of my oak dining chairs came from a skip. All that was wrong with them was the seat pads. I reupholstered them and they look great. Mind you I have 4 pairs of dining chairs all different styles but all upholstered the same. T.O.R. ;o))

We recently had a dead freezer, outside awaiting collection by the council.... knock on the door.........'Wheres the freezer mate?' Someone had had it away, during the night..........complete with redundant telly aerials and a bird cage, which were inside..........Bob

I wish someone would relieve us of some of the stuff in our skip.....we have a load of stuff to put in, from MiL too, and OH is round there collecting it now..... The last time we had a skip, there was a knock on the door, and two men were standing there asking if they could take some things out of it.......yes, great, if it can be of use to someone else, fair play......

I was in Winchester once when a high street shop was clearing old stock into a skip. Many children jumped in and retrieved notepads, old diaries, invitation cards etc. The staff said it was OK so daughter collected some items, -still wrapped in cellophane, for playgroup. What a waste. Why not donate it to one of the charity shops and save themselves skip hire price too.? Gwyn

Some years ago friends had a skip for a weekend. The morning after it had arrived someone had put in an old table and chairs which really annoyed them, but, by the next morning someone else had taken them!!! Linda x

Many years ago my friend and I were out late walking the dog when we came across this amazing, beautiful armchair perched on top of a skip. I couldn't resist it, I had to have it! Rang my son got him out of bed, we all pulled and hawled at the chair, got it off the skip and friend and I wheeled it home with son sitting regally in it! lol BC XX
