Oh thank goodness My grandad did the same One time he took me to the shop (i was 18months) we went on the tube!! he saw a skip and took from it a piece of wood!!!!! 7 foot long!!!!..we walked the 3 miles home with me carrying /dragging the loaf of bread we had gone for. He died 7 years ago and ...yes the wood is now being used by his grandson as a walk board for his narrow boat!!! in Bath.. The wood was found in London |

Was it just my dad? Or is it a common occurance, my dad could never walk past a skip. He would always stop and have a look in a skip for a “good bit of wood” and take it home because it would “come in handy“! My dad was happiest tinkering about in his shed, making window boxes, shelves and such like… |

A joinery or building business in town where we shop has a box out by the road with free firewood in. We often stop to look through it, get some quite good, handy bits of timber. It is well patronized. Suspect it is not just for firewood that people look. (Well we dont). |

Rosi, I know it's embarressing for some but it is Recycling ! My dad used to go on walks every Sunday and always came home with something......in Mum's opinion RUBBISH. I must have caught the bug; as I was on the school fund raising board and we started the town recycling paper and cardboard AND raised over £6000 for the school. My opinion is that if someone doesn't need it, someone else may x |

Many years ago my friend and I were out late walking the dog when we came across this amazing, beautiful armchair perched on top of a skip. I couldn't resist it, I had to have it! Rang my son got him out of bed, we all pulled and hawled at the chair, got it off the skip and friend and I wheeled it home with son sitting regally in it! lol BC XX |

Peter Kay says........'You've turned into your dad when you find and keep a piece of wood, specifically to stir paint with.' |

Some years ago friends had a skip for a weekend. The morning after it had arrived someone had put in an old table and chairs which really annoyed them, but, by the next morning someone else had taken them!!! Linda x |

I was in Winchester once when a high street shop was clearing old stock into a skip. Many children jumped in and retrieved notepads, old diaries, invitation cards etc. The staff said it was OK so daughter collected some items, -still wrapped in cellophane, for playgroup. What a waste. Why not donate it to one of the charity shops and save themselves skip hire price too.? Gwyn |

I wish someone would relieve us of some of the stuff in our skip.....we have a load of stuff to put in, from MiL too, and OH is round there collecting it now..... The last time we had a skip, there was a knock on the door, and two men were standing there asking if they could take some things out of it.......yes, great, if it can be of use to someone else, fair play...... |

We recently had a dead freezer, outside awaiting collection by the council.... knock on the door.........'Wheres the freezer mate?' Someone had had it away, during the night..........complete with redundant telly aerials and a bird cage, which were inside..........Bob |

2 of my oak dining chairs came from a skip. All that was wrong with them was the seat pads. I reupholstered them and they look great. Mind you I have 4 pairs of dining chairs all different styles but all upholstered the same. T.O.R. ;o)) |
