Happy New Year to all. Hope 2026 is a good year for us all.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have a war free year .

Happy New Year to everyone.

Just another day for me, not doing anything different from other days, lol.

Freezing cold today & a lot of rain through the night, some snow was lying around the edges of the garden & surrounding fields, when I got up today but some more rain this morning has shifted it .

A new top loader washing machine on order from a local store, not easy to install in my kitchen (long story) but hopefully it will get done asap.

I have got a new phone !
Our eldest son has been dealing with my new broadband contract & it has taken in the new digital phone.
The landline will be obsolete in time so my phone would have to be changed at some point so I now have what looks like a mobile but is cordless.

I am nervous of it, having had a much bigger "easier" to use "normal" phone for many years, I have to be so careful when taking it off the rest as I tend to catch the various buttons on it, which sends me into panic mode!

I suppose i will get used to it, in time !!

Joan.

Joan, our ‘landline’ has been cordless for years, the danger in Not putting it back in the cradle properly. That can mean the call is still live and clicking charges up.

We have now gone digital but have kept our old handsets. Luckily we are no longer anywhere where the power goes regularly - just hope we never get a power cut just before our mobiles need charging.

We like being able to spot all the calls from our old friend ‘ nuisance?’ One of the advantages of the digital system. :-D

I hope you're not snowed in today, Joan.

Here in north Argyll, about 4cm fell during the night, and more this morning, though it's stopped for the moment.
The clouds are thick and heavy, so there's probably more to come.

It looks beautiful now, like a Christmas card, but will likely freeze solid tonight.

I know it will have been worse in your part of the country.

ADDED: (An hour later) Now we have bright sunshine and blue sky! Whatever next?!

Amokavid Report 2 Jan 2026 10:54

Morning all.

We have more snow today, it must have been steady through the night & everything in the garden is well covered, looking out I can see around a couple of inches along the top of the garden wall.

Not enough to stop any movement along the house road yet but enough to put anyone off TRYING to get up it !!
My daughter would manage atm but people like the Postie or H oil manny wouldn't try it !

Take care everyone.

edited to add....
More snow now, been coming down for a good hour so it's building up !

It is just bitterly cold here, just two degrees, no snow though. I spoke to my sister this morning, she is in Shropshire and they have a lot of snow.

I hope that you get your new washing machine soon Joan, it must be a real problem without it

Beautiful blue sky and sun here but windy. I have not been out but pretty sure it is cold.

Amokavid Report 3 Jan 2026 10:12

Oh my a LOT we got !
Much more snow for us through the night so I suspect the house road will be difficult to get along, & can see from the bedroom window some icicles.
It's dull at the moment, no sign of an sunshine so far !

ArgyllGran Report 3 Jan 2026 10:38

On top of yesterday's 2 inches, we have another couple of inches today.
No wind, so it's lying thickly along every motionless twig.
From the look of the sky, there's more to come.

The birds are enjoying berries on trees in the garden, and a red squirrel has just scampered past the window. Deer have been in the garden during the night, judging by the footprints.

Apart from shovelling a path to the gate, I'm not going anywhere today!

Morning all....just

A few heavy hail/snow showers yesterday and through the night but not a huge a mount. It is bitterly cold and no desire to step outside!

Storage unit all built yesterday and full now of all things for crafting.

Pile of ironing is calling me so maybe that might get done, we shall see.

Off to be busy as many other things to catch up on.

Glad everyone ok but keep layered and keep cosy.

No ferries yesterday, today and tom are in doubt!

We still don’t have snow here, but it is only going to reach the dizzy heights of one degree here, so I will be staying put.

We took down all the Christmas decorations yesterday, so all is back to normal. I do prefer the uncluttered look.

We went to see Jack and the Beanstalk at Harrogate theatre last night. It was a very good production and we all had a really good time.

I can't open the porch door today, it's on the back of the house & it opens outwards, the extra snow has frozen & is up against the door.

I'm not planning on going anywhere but I am expecting some medication tomorrow, I I can't see ithe manny getting up to the house !
Hoping daughter can get up, but there is a lot of snow between her place & mine !

I hope eveeryone else is ok.

I hope that you manage to get your meds Joan.

It is so cold here, already minus one. I am pleased that it started to get dark, so that I could close all the curtains to try and keep the heat in. Even though the house is very well insulted and the heating has been on all day, it has felt cold.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 4 Jan 2026 21:32

Minus 6 here tonight. The four inches of snow in my garden won't be melting any time soon! The garden doesn't get direct sunshine at this time of year, apart from about an hour in the afternoon, because of hills and trees.

Storage heaters on full; extra heaters plugged in and in use; thermal vest plus two warm jumpers, and fleece trousers - I'm still cold.
Now going to put my long fleece dressing gown on top of all those clothes.

I hope your meds man makes it, Joan.

Florence61 Report 4 Jan 2026 23:10

We are very snowed in here and not sure if buses or planes will run tomorrow.

The main roads are covered completely although gritters were out at 5pm.

Heating been on since 4 and warm enough now.

AG I used to wear my big fluffy fleece dressing gown over my clothes in the old rented house to keep warm with a fleece blanket over my legs and feet as it was Baltic in that house. One time i even went to bed wearing my dressing gown!

Joan, i do hope you get your meds and hope you are managing to keep warm.

Stay safe all

Re the storage heaters -
I'm warm enough in the mornings and early afternoons, but in frosty weather, by late afternoon and in the evening, when the storage heaters have used up most of their nightly charge, then the house is cold.

When the temperature outside rises above freezing, then the house will also feel much warmer.

Florence61 Report 5 Jan 2026 09:31

Morning all.

Schools are shut, no planes or public buses so nothing moving here!

My Tesco order for tom is in doubt as the mainland rds are awful and the main one for the lorries was closed last night.

I have enough for a few days just milk thats running out. But i have a tin of Marvel for emergencies.

AG yes once the temp rises, its warmer in the house. We used to have storage heathers back in the 90,s, so i get what you are saying.

Hope Joan is ok.

Everyone if you have snow, then stay indoors. keep warm and safe, no point taking any risks.

Good morning to you all, though it's far from good !! thanks for asking after me.

It's horrible here, more snow overnight, must be around 10 inches lying here, deeper in some parts around the house where the wind had blown snow around !
Daughter came over yesterday (she walked) & she cleared the blockage at my back porch door, then later on her hubby came over with a plough & cleared the house road, daughter then came back in her car & cleared some of the drive (which is at the back of the house) so as to allow anyone in a car or on foot can get to the house.

Between them they made it all accessable, but today it's as bad as ever, I can't see my meds being delivered !
The sun is shining just now but it's not going to shift anything , it's too cold.

Daughter is at her work this morning IF she got there, so I don't know if she or hubby will manage to re do all that they did for me yesterday.
I hate snow !!

Take care & keep warm everyone.

Joan.

Joan, just a thought, could your daughter collect the meds from your chemist?
