	After reading Col's list (and remembering everything + Pearl and Dean)..... I'd love someone to recall this special day, it is now Commonwealth day, but once was a special day and also we had a half day holiday from school :-D......anyone? :-)

	Hi Carol yes I was too :-D....but can you remember Empire day being held at school?.....I've not been able to find anyone who remembers the event :-S

	It was first held ( in 1902) on 24 May Suzanne.....but ended in 1958...then becoming Commonwealth day.

	I remember the little Union Jacks on a pin, for sticking on your lapel like you do with poppies. :-D

	I used to love Empire Day at junior school. The whole school would march round the school yard carrying flags (mine was always a tiny little thing and I used to envy the "rich" kids who had great big ones). Afterwards all the kids would chant " Emprie Day, the 24th of May, if you don't give us a holiday, we'll all run away". Then the headmistress would announce that we had the afternoon off and everyone would cheer and wave their flags. Great days!! Kath. x

	It's still a holiday here in Canada and still called Victoria Day.

Funny ,as when we get older we recall all these little events that we never did when younger... Ah well ...as long as we still keep up with the 21st century,it's nice to go down memory lane.lets keep them coming!! :-) :-)

	Don't remember Empire Day. Dad used to have Trafalgar Day off school as he went to the same school as Nelson (not at the same time though :-D )

	Glad you have found people that also celebrated Mau, as I have said to you, we didn't celebrate it and I was at school from 1945 to 1956. Maybe it was not a National school holiday but up to local authorities. My primary school was a church of England School, maybe they didn't celebrate such things :-D
