It's just you Paula :-D

It could be that your spellchecker has picked them up. Just a suggestion.

Good morning DET. Thank you. How are you? I have not used spell checker this morning on here. I will check when I start to do some typing later.

I have never used spell checker (wouldn't know where to find it)...but suddenly it appeared a few weeks ago and I now get red wiggly lines under words that it does not recognise

Island Report 10 Jul 2013 11:05

Hi Paula, I'm getting the spell checker red squiggly line as I type replies on here and FB since a few days ago - yes I know, some of my words are incorrect on purpose lol.
BUT........I did a forum search on here yesterday and a word was in red, no squiggly line. :-S

If anyone one knows how to turn it off as an auto feature I'd like to know as I'm fed up of adding names to the dictionary :-|

I'm fine Paula, thank you. And you? :-D

The spellchecker could have come with one of your automatic upgrades. I used to have it then it disappeared. :-0

Island sweetie, if you right click on a wiggley word ,a menu box usually comes up. you can turn it off from there. I think you need to uncheck "check spelling"box.

But, if you do, you well may miss/lose your spelchecker :-D

Island Report 10 Jul 2013 11:57

This is the problem BR, spell check is handy for when 'I' want to check a word but auto check is just annoying :-|

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 10 Jul 2013 12:29

I been using my home office package this morning. it has auto spell check, but this is not the same as the underscore I am getting here. Also used email no autospell on there, no used the spell check getting wriggly red line)

:-S :-S

Paula - it is a kind of spell checker program now incorporated in GR's software.

Put your curser over the word with the red line squiggle - Right click on your mouse. This brings up a few possible corrections in the function box. If you see the correct spelling you can point your curse on the word and it will change it.

It's not GR's software I don't think?

It is related to Googlechrome... IE doesn't show it either here or on my gmail.

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 10 Jul 2013 12:48

Rose it did not show on my either of email accounts.

Personally I find it a real pain, and it's not accurate, also a nuisance when putting in names of people and places :-|

It is a feature of the browser you are using. It is a new feature in Internet Explorer 10 as well as some other browsers.

To turn it off in Internet Explorer 10...

1. Open the Tools menu (towards top left of window). You can also do this by pressing Alt and X at the same time.
2. Select "Manage add-ons".
3. The add-ons window opens. On the left hand side click on "Spelling Correction".
4. At the bottom of the window, remove the tick next to "Enable spelling correction".
5. Close the window by clicking on the X in its top right corner and that should have disabled the feature.

I have recently changed to IE10....don't know why because everything is now messed up....the wiggly line appeared before I changed...it happens on Facebook as well, so nothing to do with GR

CupCakes Report 10 Jul 2013 13:06

Just checked Facebook - same there.
My gmail has always had red squiggles.

I don't use Chrome - I E for ever.

Maybe it is because of different versions - Going to check on my other computer later.
:-D

Island Report 10 Jul 2013 13:21

IE does shows it here for me Rose. I'm getting it on FB too so not just a GR feature.
I'm not IE 10 either.

Errol, is it possible to disable auto check but keep spell check?

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 10 Jul 2013 13:30

Island I'm not sure I exactly understand what you mean.

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 10 Jul 2013 13:34

Errol - Oh wise one - I stand corrected.

Found it.....

I'm not turning mine off - safer to leave it on.

Is there a predictable text option like on a mobile phone. :-)

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 10 Jul 2013 13:47

There is a predictive text option if you use the on-screen keyboard. You can also use predictive text if you are using dictation as your input method.
